Philips Releases Bowers & Wilkins Audio Powered 55-inch LCD Display
We've heard about the Philips and Bowers & Wilkins collaboration for some time now, and finally, the first model will be available in Australia this month.
The Philips 558M1RYis a 55-inch 4K HDR LED-backlit LCD display featuring a full-range soundbar developed by Bowers & Wilkins. The soundbar offers six sound modes tailored for atmosphere, impact and EQ levels, including Sport & Racing, RPG & Adventure, Shooting & Action, Movie Watching, Music, and Personal for customisable settings. The soundbar is covered with acoustically transparent fabric using a premium wool blend created by renowned manufacturer Kvadrat.
This particular model also includes Philips Ambiglow lighting, which creates a halo of light around the display, which automatically adjusts to the colour of what's on the screen. This means you could be exploring the ocean in a diving documentary, and to fully complete the experience have shades of blue bathing the walls.
Philips says that at its core, “this display is wholly focused on delivering an immersive and engaging home entertainment experience.” Philips' DisplayHDR 1000 is said to produce astonishing brightness, contrast and colours, “with its potential for lifelike images fully reached with the help of local dimming and peak brightness of up to 1000 nits.” Users also have a choice of viewing modes optimised for home entertainment, including HDR Game, HDR Movie, HDR Photo and various personal customisations.
Gamers will appreciate the Low Input Lag, which intelligently reduces the delay between device inputs and on-screen display, for an enhanced sensation of perfect responsiveness, along with 120Hz refresh rate.
There's no OS or tuner built-in to this model, but that's easily resolved by the addition of an Apple TV 4K, and accompanying Fetch TV box or similar.
The Philips 558M1RY 55” LCD TV is available mid-September 2002 and has a retail price of $2,499. StereoNET has requested a review sample, so stay tuned for the full review soon.
