MCINTOSH ANNOUNCES XRT1.1K LOUDSPEAKERS

The latest speakers from McIntosh have been designed to be easier to fit into more home environments. The XRT1.1K boasts no fewer than 70 drivers in a cabinet that is under 6-feet tall.

Following in the footsteps of the larger-than-life XRT2.1K announced in 2017 is the equally impressive XRT1.1K loudspeaker. The full range XRT1.1K is rated at 1,200 watts and comes in at 14-inches (35 cm) shorter and 173 lbs (78 kg) lighter than the XRT2.1K.

The 5-foot 10-inch tall XRT1.1K will be a little less conspicuous than its large sibling in the average UK home, but it will still produce a room-filling sound.

The ported, 4-way XRT1.1K uses a line array design to yield an even and wide sound field. That line array design also means that anyone really close to the XRT1.1K won't be overpowered by extremely high volumes because they'll only be on axis to a portion of the drivers. Furthermore, those listening further away will be on axis to more of the drivers and will be able to enjoy the music without any significant drop off in sound level or quality.

Loaded with 70 drivers the XRT1.1K employs four, 6.5-inch woofers, a pair of 6.5-inch low-frequency midranges, two-dozen 2-inch upper-frequency midranges, and 40 ¾-inch tweeters.

The woofer and low-frequency midrange drivers were first designed for the XRT2.1K and are housed in the large bass enclosure cabinet located behind the line array. Their extraordinarily stiff and light diaphragms along with their long throw design produce an impressive bass extension.

In front of the bass cabinet is where you'll find the line array for the upper-frequency midranges and tweeters, these were also first developed for the XRT2.1K.

Utilising capacitors and inductors with low loss and high current capacity, the crossover network is engineered to ensure an even frequency response over the entire audible range. The type of inductor used in each section of the network has been specially chosen for high linearity, even at high power levels and McIntosh says this prevents distortion of the music at any frequency. The network also employs self-resetting high current PTC type fuses to provide an extra measure of protection for the drivers.

The bass cabinet of the XRT1.1K is finished with 7 layers of high gloss piano black paint highlighted with touches of brushed and black aluminium. The line array features hints of the classic McIntosh front panel with a black centre section and silver trim. The line array is suspended in front of the bass cabinet via steel spiders. Finally, these are capped with magnetic covers that mimic the look of McIntosh control knobs.

The speaker grilles feature black knit cloth with high gloss trim; the grilles are easily removed via their magnetic fasteners to expose the drivers. The base plate is made of machined aluminium and glass.

Rounding things off in the looks department are 4 adjustable feet that allow the speaker to make perfect contact with the floor, eliminating a possible source of distortion or vibration.

The speaker cable binding posts, naturally, are McIntosh's gold-plated Solid Cinch items. Also, there are separate pairs of binding posts for the mid/high, low and subwoofer frequencies to allow for tri-amping or tri-wiring.

The finishing touch is that the McIntosh logo on the base can be illuminated with the use of our Power Control technology found in the brand's amps and preamps.
