Marantz NR1711 Slimline 8K AV Receiver Announced

The Marantz NR1711 follows the recent release of the company's SR 8K range. However, the slender stylings of the NR1711 may well find favour easier in your living space.

The slim NR1711 AV receiver might well be low in profile, but it certainly seems to be big on specs. Starting off with its 8K Ultra HD-ready HDMI input you can also tick off multidimensional object-oriented audio format support including Dolby Atmos, Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology, DTS:X and DTS Virtual:X.

Marantz NR1711 8K UHD AV Receiver

At nearly half the height of a standard AV receiver, the Marantz NR1711 delivers seven channels of 90W per channel and the discrete amp promises low-impedance driver capability. Furthermore, there is a pair of subwoofer outs as well.

As well as the 8K HDMI with 8K/60Hz pass-through and Quick Media Switching (QMS) all six HDMI inputs support 8K upscaling, Dolby Vision, HLG, Dynamic HDR, HDR10+, 4:4:4 Pure Color sub-sampling, BT.2020 pass-through, as well as the latest HDMI features VRR, QFT, ALLM, QMS and current HDCP 2.3 copy-protection standard. Also, there's an HDMI out and eARC support.

Marantz NR1711 Digital and Analogue Audio

Of course, there is HEOS Built-in for multi-room streaming that also hands you AirPlay 2 technology. Furthermore, you get Roon compatibility and access to popular streaming services, including TIDAL, Spotify, Amazon Music HD, Deezer, and many others. The reference-class 32-bit AKM AK4458 DAC does the heavy-lifting on all channels ensuring ALAC, FLAC and WAV lossless files up to 24-bit/192-kHz as well as DCD 2.8MHz and 5.6MHz are decoded with optimum fidelity, says Marantz.

Getting the right sound is made even easier thanks to Audyssey MultEQ room setup and calibration for the absolute best audio quality which allows you to store two presets - perhaps, one for music and one for movies.

You can even use your Bluetooth headphones to listen wirelessly—the NR1711 works with Google Assistant, Alexa and Siri so there's even less need to get off your sofa.

Finally, vinylistas are catered for too as the Marantz NR1711 sports a separate phono stage for when you want to keep it analogue.

The Marantz NR1711 will arrive in Australia early-November this (black finish only) and is expected to sell for $1,599 RRP.

    applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
