HIFI2020 Show Postponed Due to Coronavirus
The HIFI2020 show scheduled to run next month at the Novotel Hotel in Sydney's CBD has been postponed to September 18-20.
Up until Friday morning, the event was going to go ahead even after exhibitors expressed serious concerns to show organisers, Jim Preece and Jez Ford from Future Media, regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
The rescheduled date in September collides with the Australian school holidays schedule, AFL Finals, and the CEDIA event in Denver, Colorado, an important trade show that many Australian industry members attend, according to some exhibitors. The unfortunate situation has left the events industry in a tailspin, with Ford commenting that finding alternative dates was difficult “due to the virus”. HIFI2020 organisers told StereoNET that they would, however, “offer full refunds to all exhibitors and attendees who are not happy with the new date”.
Hundreds of Australian events scheduled in the March - July period this year have now been cancelled or postponed, with the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix cancellation today locking out thousands of attendees only hours before the first F1 practice. The HIFI2020 cancellation comes after the most significant industry show, Munich's High-End Show has been cancelled, along with North America's AXPONA, and Salon Audio de Montreal. These shows have not yet announced future dates and have offered full refunds to exhibitors and attendees.
StereoNET's own Melbourne Home Entertainment Expo scheduled for November 6-8 this year is proceeding as planned. We will continue to assess the pandemic and economic impact over the coming months, and any decision made on the timing or potential postponement of our show will be from an informed consensus and with plenty of notice for the whole industry.
