Fyne Audio Reveals F1 Series Standmount Speakers

Following on from Fyne Audio's bolstering of its F700 range with a trio of new loudspeakers, the Scottish speaker brand has just announced a pair of additions to its flagship F1 series with the F1-5 and F1-8 standmount loudspeakers. Additionally, the brand has also included a new dedicated stand, dubbed the FS8.

The Lanarkshire-based company has distilled the imposing F1-12's acoustic design and the maker's technologies into a compact cabinet, albeit a rather luxuriously hand-finished one.

The new stand mount models are based on 5-inch and 8-inch IsoFlare point source drivers. The F1-5 unit mates a 125mm mid/bass cone complete with FyneFlute roll surround, with a 19mm magnesium dome compression tweeter positioned at the centre of the driver. Covering the full audio range, this driver creates a time-aligned isotropic wavefront, says Fyne Audio.

The larger of the two standmounts, the F1-8, is based around an 8-inch IsoFlare driver. This unit combines a multifibre mid/bass cone with a 25mm magnesium dome compression tweeter, along with a raft of Fyne's technologies and refinements including FyneFlute roll surround, cast aluminium chassis and ferrite HF magnets.

Both of the new loudspeakers feature rigid birch ply cabinets and the integration of Fyne's BassTrax technology. Incorporated into the machined aluminium plinths of the F1-5 and F1-8, BassTrax uses a Tractrix profile diffuser cone that transfers the plane wave LF energy from the cabinet's down-firing port into a 360-degree spherical wavefront. Fyne states that “this seamless LF output delivers substantial bass depth and weight despite the smaller volume cabinets and makes the resulting speaker far less critical of room position and placement.”

As with the existing F1 Series, both new models offer subtle control over the presence band output via a front-mounted aluminium knob. This hands you control through the 2.5kHz-5kHz region, of up to +/-3dB, the crucial vocal spectrum, without impacting the overall balance.

Although the F1-5 is a mere 321mm tall, it offers 87dB/W efficiency, bass output to below 50Hz and substantial 200W peak power handling, according to the bumpf. Whereas, the 470mm tall F1-8 is stated to reach down to a “floorstanding” 33Hz in-room, is 91dB/W efficient and can handle up to 360W peak power.

Finally, stand-mounted loudspeakers need some decent support. In this case, Fyne Audio has also announced the dedicated FS8 loudspeaker stands. Although created for F1-5 and F1-8, they are said to be equally at home with the new F700 and F701 models.

The design shares the same machined aluminium plinth build of the F1 and F700 models, adding “both acoustic benefits and aesthetic cohesion to these stand mount designs.”

Fyne Audio will be debuting its new wares at this weekend's Bristol Hi-Fi Show, in the United Kingdom. Follow the coverage over at StereoNET UK.

Available now, the Fyne Audio F1-5 in Gloss Walnut Veneer (AUD $6,995 / NZD $ 7,495), F1-8 in Gloss Walnut Veneer sell for (AUD $12,995 / NZD $13,995), while the FS8 loudspeaker stands in black sell for (AUD $2,695 / NZD $2,795)
