Sydney Audio Club - Sunday 15th November 2015 - Krispy Audio

Recommended Posts

The November 2015 meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again gather for an afternoon of fine music, great sound and amicable company.

Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests.  It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition.  And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

For our last club meeting of the calendar year, Cameron Pope of Krispy Audio (http://www.krispyaudio.com.au/pages/About-Us.html) will be presenting.   Cameron has presented to the Sydney Audio Club a couple of times before, each time bringing in a totally different and great system.  This time he’s bringing in another impressive system based on Harbeth speakers – their first appearance in the club.

Details of the system…. (most detail below has been copied from the Krispy Audio web site)…

Harbeth Super HL5+ speakers –  http://www.krispyaudio.com.au/products/Harbeth-Super-HL5-Plus-speakers.html

Breathtaking transparency, a huge soundstage and total immersion in the performance.  See Cameron’s web site for a few pointers to reviews of these speakers.

ModWright KWA100SE stereo amplifier –  http://www.krispyaudio.com.au/products/ModWright-KWA-100-SE-Stereo-power-amplifier.html

Provides the strengths of both tube and solid state products: 3-D sound-staging, holographic imaging and a beautiful midrange of tubes, combined with sparkling highs, low distortion, bass resolution, and control of solid state.

The Bespoke Audio Company (TVC - transformer volume control) preamp –  http://www.krispyaudio.com.au/products/The-Bespoke-Audio-Co.-Preamplifier.html

"The sound it produces illuminates the depths of every recording that crosses its path, removing all veils and adding no sonic imprint whatsoever. Add to that the extremely elegant visual aesthetics, a variety of available custom finishes, aided by the top notch build quality and a first rate customer support and you get a product that in my opinion deserves to join the elite company of Mono & Stereo Upper Echelon award." - Mono & Stereo 2015.

Manley Chinook Phono stage –  http://www.krispyaudio.com.au/products/Manley-Chinook-phono-stage.html

The spawn of the Manley Steelhead - one of the world's greatest phono preamplifiers - Stereophile Class A Recommended Component and The Absolute Sound's Preamp of the Year, has arrived. The Chinook epitomises the sound of the Steelhead.  Designed for the music lover.

SOTA Cosmos vacuum platter turntable –  http://www.krispyaudio.com.au/products/SOTA-Cosmos-Vacuum-Turntable.html

The COSMOS represents the ultimate expression of SOTA’s critically acclaimed turntable engineering.

Shelter 5000 cartridge –  http://www.krispyaudio.com.au/products/Shelter-5000-Cartridge.html

Our digital front-end for the day will be a Micromega, Bel Canto or Esoteric player – depending on what Cameron has available on the day.  Failing that, we’ll have an

Oppo BDP-105 Universal player sourced from a member.

The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO.   Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all.  So bring along your favourite music on CD/SACD or vinyl.   All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting.  We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played.  Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go.

Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind.

Guests are always welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound.  We will welcome you at the door.

Venue:  Epping Creative Centre, Dence Park
Address:  26 Stanley Road, Epping

When:  Sunday 15th November 2015

Doors open 1pm
Meeting starts at 2pm

Best regards,

This coming Sunday 15th November 2015 is the last meeting of the Sydney Audio Club for 2015.

Please join us for a BBQ and a drink from 1:00pm on Sunday to celebrate another great year for the Club.

The BBQ offering (food and drink) will cost $5 per person.  Partners are very welcome.   Purchasers of the BBQ offering will also automagically go into the door prize draw – 3 prizes this year.

BTW – our January 2016 club meeting will be on the 17th.   It’s intentionally a bit later than usual to improve the likelihood that people can attend after their Christmas break.

Item: Harbeth HL-Compact 7ES-3 with Skylan Stands
      Location: Melbourne
      Price: $2400
      Item Condition: Very Good
Reason for selling: Clearing out 2nd system
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only
      Extra Info:

These are in great condition, no marks or nicks. I'm not the first owner (bought off SNA from a Perth seller about 12-18 months ago).

Specifications are available at the Harbeth site - https://www.harbeth.co.uk/hifi-speaker/2/Harbeth-C7ES-3-loudspeaker

I think these speakers can still be bought new (for $4-5k AUD based on a cursory internet search).

They've been my main system, until about 6 months ago and since then have not been used, so time to find them a new home for someone else to enjoy.

I have the original boxes for the speakers (not the stands) but would prefer local pickup please.

The stands are Skylan, seem to be of solid PDF with partial filling in the vertical corners, and look to be specifically designed for these speakers - they fit perfectly in any case, and bring the speaker to the right height. The stands have screw on spikes.

I've been running these with a Yamaha A-S1000 (105W into 8Ohm) and they sound wonderful.

For our June club meeting we are very pleased to have the exceptionally musical Harbeth Monitor 40.2 speakers, courtesy of Cameron Pope of Krispy Audio (https://krispyaudio.com.au/).  Unfortunately Cameron cannot attend on the day due to other commitments.

For our first half, we will have two separate music sessions where two members will play up to 25 minutes of music of their choice. These “Member Music Sessions” (as we call them) prove to be very enjoyable, interesting and often surprizing.

      Details of the system…

Speakers:  Harbeth Monitor 40.2 speakers.  Refer to: https://krispyaudio.com.au/products/harbeth-monitor-40-2-speakers.html
Amplifier:  AudioGD Master-10 Integrated.  Refer to http://www.audio-gd.com/Master/Master10/Master-10EN.htm
Sources:   Gryphon Mikado Reference CDP  (for CD playback)
Oppo BDP-105D universal player (for USB flash drives)

The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO.  Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music on CD/SACD or USB thumb/flash drives (sorry, no vinyl this month). All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go.

Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others. Feel free to come and hear the capabilities of the system, or to just share the experience with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Guests are welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound.
