The problem continues....

Note how the new purchases nestle lightly in the place the turntable will lay once all of the other precursor actvities have taken place?  And how the absence of a turntable in this rack (and supporting components) inhibit appreciation of anything other than album artwork? But I must say the sentimental streak is fully activated when handling a full size LP, artwork and related materials vs a cd or download.  I wil be interested to hear the assembled ingredients when they are finally configured. All is in readiness...

Picked up this today at JB. Dutch pressing, and I must say that I'm very impressed with the packaging. The card stock they have used on the cover would put the Japanese editions from the 70's to shame, and that's really saying something. I'll report back later on the jazz spinning thread as to the SQ.

What did you find?  I just bought recently, but I am yet to set up the turntable.  Happy with SQ?

Beautiful packaging, great liner notes/insert. Perfectly pressed, dead quiet.

Shame about the p!ss poor sound quality!

This could've been the perfect release but they stuffed up the SQ, resulting in a compressed and flat/dull sounding release.

That being said, the musical content is fantastic.

Completely agree with this. That being said, this is the first time the album has been released mastered from the original analogue master tapes. That's right, even the first press released back in the day, were made from copies! Why? Until someone originally involved can enlighten us, we can but guess. Is it possible with this release that the producers tried to stay a little too close to the original recordings, and this is what we have? Once again, it will take an insider to release that information. This is still better than any S/H version I have, and I'm enjoying it regardless.

WAITS, Tom    Under The Covers: The Songs He Didn't Write

Haven't had a warped record for a long time. Must be summertime in UK ;)

Don't even think the Vinyl Flat will have any luck with this one!

Annoyed with work and needed a walk.....wow, look at that, I just found myself on level 4 of the Dymocks centre standing outside Birdland records.

That feels better....back to work.

Somehow I didn't have My Favorite Things in my digital collection....not sure how that happened.

Just back from 3 weeks in Catalunya and I'm spinning the pile of records that were waiting for me when I returned.

First, a local Melbourne gem, Romeo Moon's "it Unfolds"

Then, a brilliant minimal techno ambient album, 2014 debut from Iceland's Kiasmos

Finally, but far from least, number 3237/4000 of MFSL's new double 45rpm release of Aretha's Gold. Fabulous recording and pressing, even more fabulous music

Absolutely agree, I was selling one of these in the lots of LPs a few weeks ago - no-one was interested.  Very surprised, but maybe ppl don't realise how good this is.

I hope this does not become a habit... ?

Some relative bargains on MM at the moment.  Donald Byrd Cat Walk for example.

Has anybody used gubemusic.com to buy downloads? I note they seem to have 24 bit ECM downloads etc.  Do any of you good souls have any experience with this site?  And if so, good?

Not sure about that site but I got some info the other day from ECM re a number of their earlier albums that were never released on CD are to be available digitally.More info here.

The previous member mentioned he'd picked up an Ennio Morricone SACD. Unless he was extremely lucky, I suspect it wasn't THE MISSION Soundtrack! (That seems to be almost impossible to find after 15 years. One Australian seller is asking $A200 for it! (I'd love to have it simply for the remastering, even though I don't have a SACD player.)
