A couple of interesting Aussie lp's picked up from Red Eye records today.

Lower Plenty - Hard Rubbish and 1st album Mean

on beautiful 100gm vinyl released on Fire records. Melbourne band Feat. members of UV Race/Total Control/Dick Diver & Deaf Wish. Dark, sparse, Alt folk with an edge and sound pretty good. Superb

The Maple Trail - Cable Mount Warning

Solo project of Blue Mountains Belles Will Ring guitarist Aiden Roberts.

Nice 60's early 70's folk sound, and sounds a little like Nick Drake mixed with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Sounds wonderful as well. I like it.

New Dum Dum Girls on Sub Pop. - Chick shoegaze :thumb:

I saw the Maple Trail live last week (supporting Packwood) and have ordered the album online as Aidan had none at the gig. So I am waiting for mine to arrive. Funny you mentioned Nick Drake as he did a superb cover of At The Chime Of A City Clock. If you get a chance I'd recommend seeing him live.

And sounds like I need to check out Lower Plenty. You are a bad influence Mr Turntable.

:D

Time to pop down to Red Eye .   Lower Plenty is a bit unique in that it sounds like American alt folk, except all the lyrics reference Australia.  You will like it.

If he is playing locally or Belle ,let me know as I will come.

Cheers

Ok guys will let you know when the Maple Trail is playing again. O Sydney is also a fan.

Btw he is on Broken Stone Records. A small Aussie label that has an excellent selection of artists including Kelly Dance who I am a big fan of. I posted about Kelly in this thread a few days ago. For some of Kelly's music, Maple Trail plus more of their artist try http://www.soundcloud.com/bsr

And Aidan has recently been working with Kelly on some new stuff which will be interesting.

Hard Rubbish is a great album, I think this was voted #1 album of 2013 by RRR.

Looking forward to the quality of this one.

The Nat King Cole Story 2 SACD

This has been a totally no-expenses-spared project. Using the original three-track work tapes from Capitol's vaults, mastering engineers Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman along with DSD specialist Gus Skinas bring you an entirely incomparable SACD experience. In addition to the stereo mixes, this SACD includes a three-track transfer for multichannel playback. In order to master from the three-track masters, AcousTech had to be outfitted for three-channel playback.

popped down to Beatdisc records to pick up some Aussie vinyl with a few great suggestions from fellow sna folks from the Aussie music thread.    Surprising how many Aussie albums are on vinyl these days.  Given all the lp's a spin and they are all enjoyable on first listen

Jack Ladder - Hurtsville  - Like Nick Cave?, you will love this. Ever wanted to hear Nick Cave surrounde in eerie synths and strings - here is your chance.

Royal Headache - Whats Your Rupture?  - lo-fi fast paced garage rock with a spontanity of early Buzzcocks. all songs are no longer than 2.30, so it all goes along at a humming pace.

Dick Diver - Calender days - beautiful up, pop rock with jangly guitars with strong Go Betweens influence.  must track down their 1st lp now.

Big Scary - Not Art  - when I first started listening to this it sounded like the New Arcade Fire album but its really good.  Big sounding production with nice synths, piano and drum beats bringing in XX influence as well - this is a definate grower as there is a lot happening.

Shining Bird - Leisure Coast - 80's like soft washws out rock with the vocalist sounding like a cross between The National and Tindersticks  - Stare into the Sun is worth the price of admission - stunning song.

The Ancients  - Night Bus  - Shoegaze dream pop with Ride like density and nice buzz guitars

Spencer P Jones & the Nothing Butts  - great strait up Aussie hard rock in roll. Superb guitar work

I haven't bought a full-price LP since I lived in the USA. I do occasionally by a new CD (e.g. the latest Sun Kil Moon).

There's so much good stuff out there for cheap just waiting to be found ...

Dave, when you are heading to Title can I come along for some musical education? I think I know about 20% of what Mr B bought.

That would be a pleasure, although like you I know only a little about MrB's selections, except that I trust in his taste implicitly. I think we would both benefit greatly from a session with Martin.

I will ask the boss for a ticket of leave for "The Basses". If you are planning to go too, perhaps we could catch up for a while beforehand?

Yes Dave will be going to The Basses so sounds like a plan. I am sure we can drag along ferchersan and bell ringer and attack the back room at Title together. Honestly I reckon you could spend half a day in there, it just boxes stacked on top of each other everywhere. We won't go wrong if we use Mr B's purchases as a guide.
