Yeah I have a lot of worse sounding albums than Hot Fuzz.

Also an amusing name.

Ok spinning Mastadon now...picked up 5 albums20180706_131149.thumb.jpg.b77f72bc24201526fbf3efc6877ad7b5.jpg

Powerful stuff!....not sure you would want to soften it though..... first album spinning away ....did I happen to grab one of the real stinkers?

Emperor of sand is quite average sounding, as is the one with the horse on it. :D

But yeah, bloody awesome music, enjoy!! I know I do.

Leviathan will impress then.

Concept album about Moby Dick-

Opens with Blood & Thunder-

I think that someone is trying to kill me
Infecting my blood and destroying my mind
No man of the flesh could ever stop me
The fight for this fish is a fight to the death

White whale, holy grail
White whale, holy grail

What remorseless emperor commands me
I no longer govern my soul
I am completely immersed in darkness
As I turn my body away from the sun

White whale, holy grail
White whale, holy grail

Split your lungs with blood and thunder
When you see the white whale
Break your backs and crack your oars men
If you wish to prevail

This ivory leg is what propels me
Harpoons thrust in the sky
Aim directly for his crooked brow
And look him straight in the eye

White whale, holy grail
White whale, holy grail

Dunno about you but my muscles ache with the strain and dried salt just listening to it. Determination described from both man and whale, fantastic!!

I have had this one on repeat.....and I am loving it all over again! The imaging and separation is far from poor . Brandon's voice central, sound stage expansive  and a lot going on . While I do agree it is not audiophile quality but lets face it what rock is , its ability to draw you into tapping your foot just begs you to turn it up and pretend you are in a stadium or pub...awesome!  Loved this album previously and absolutely loving it again thanks for the reminder....will have to disagree on the MP3 quality though far from it.

At least it sounds much better than they do live. Why the screaming Brandon? Live show at Hisense Arena back in May was saved by the fanatical crowd. Never seen or heard a more manic crowd than the singing Mr Brightside that night. The band may as well have not been there...

Well it looks like the Meridian has gone to my mates place to nestle with all it's other Meridian family members. :D

The wash up- I think the Meridian needed to sit on it's own hooked up to some big Meridian actives, which I could not afford. Once this is the scenario, then a lot of the features are useable.

The Ayon Sigma is not a better dac than the Meridian but it is better for the material that I own and enjoy. It gives it a more engaging sound and takes a bit of the heat out of the bad recordings, for me it is very nice. Next thing to try will be the addition of a valve pre but for now, everything is great and the new subs and the dac have been another small jump forward, am very happy.

Will conclude with the statement that the Meridian CDP is the best CD player and the best dac I have ever heard. Nothing makes a well mastered redbook CD sound better. If you listen to decent recordings, be it digital files into the digital in or spinning silver discs, keep a lookout for an 808, they are thin on the ground but well worth the expense.

JC2 has gone off to a loving home and am in discussion with Earle and Greg re- valve pre amps.

Greg (O) sells the Consonance Linear 1.

Am chatting with Earle about his Time Machine 300B pre, or the Frankenstein that we are planning form me anyhow.

The valves in the Ayon Sigma made a great improvement to the music that I listen to, I need more. However, I shant part with my beloved mono's. They are required to deliver Armageddon now and then.

Have hooked up the amp-level outputs and cables to the REL's and the jury is out but I need to fine tune yet.

Watch this space.

Hey Daz...

If you can find a used one of these you will be laughing...

The Coincident Statement Line Stage...

Attached it to a Gryphon I owned at the time...

And Oh My...it is the reason I now own a bespoke Pre...

Based on WE 205 D...but soon to be modded to WE 300 B...

There are a few of these floating around AUS....

Grabbed the Stereo Knight pre amp in the classifieds, once it arrives all of my efforts will go into sorting the new subs.

Mucked around yesterday with REL's line level set up vs the DSPeaker Anti Mode 2.0 and so far the DSPeaker is working much better.

To set up as per the REL manual, you remove trapping and have the subs right in the corner, utilising the rooms bass effects. Then you check phase, positioning and so on and I couldn't get it right. The subs seem to prefer the 180 phase for the room. I ran out of time but I think so far, the best possie has been how I first just plonked them there, haha, 45 deg to room corners, in front of the tube traps and setup through the DSPeaker device.

Am yet to try some more conventional sub positions and then run the DSPeaker calibration.

Have you tried the subwoofer crawl method?
