Sydney Audio Club Meeting - Sunday 21-Jun-2015 - Redefy Audio

Recommended Posts

The June 2015 meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again gather for an afternoon of fine music, great sound and amicable company.

Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests.  It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition.  And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

For our June meeting we will have Henry Chen from Redefy Audio present his Redefy One speakers.

Details of the system…

Redefy Audio speakers.  Redefy One, 3 way stand mount.  Capable of driving even large rooms.  Australian designed and built.  Refer to http://redefyaudio.com/products and http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php?/topic/83462-redefy-one-a-high-performance-92db-stand-mount/

Rhytmik Subwoofer.  Powerful subs from Austin TX company.  Refer to http://www.rythmikaudio.com/reviews.html and http://www.rythmikaudio.com/products.html

Audio GD Master 5 Preamp.  A true balanced design, short signal path, fully Class A, no feedback.  Refer to http://www.audio-gd.com/Master/Master-5/Master-5EN.htm

Plinius SA100 Power Amp.  Refer to http://www.stereophile.com/solidpoweramps/497plinius/ and http://www.audioreview.com/cat/amplification/amplifiers/plinius/sa-100-mk-iii/prd_116087_1583crx.aspx

Marantz SA11 S1 SACD Player.  Refer to http://us.marantz.com/us/reviewandawarddocumnets/pdfs/review-sa-11s1.pdf and  http://www.stereotimes.com/cd122005.shtml

Vermouth Black Pearl RCA's.  High-end gear from Indonesia.  Refer to http://vermouthaudio.com/new/ and http://vermouthaudio.com/new/?wpcproduct=black-pearl-mk-ii and  http://www.krispykables.com.au/products/Vermouth-Black-Pearl-Mk2-RCA-cables.html

Vermouth Red Velvet Speaker cables.  Refer to http://vermouthaudio.com/new/ and http://vermouthaudio.com/new/?wpcproduct=red-velvet and

http://www.krispykables.com.au/products/Vermouth-Red-Velvet-speaker-cables.html

The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO.   Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all.  So bring along your favourite music on  CD/SACD.  (Sorry, no provision for vinyl or flash drives this month.)  All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting.  We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played.  Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go.

Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind.

Guests are always welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound.  We will welcome you at the door.

Venue:  Epping Creative Centre, Dence Park
Address:  26 Stanley St, Epping

When:  Sunday 21st June 2015

Doors open 1pm
Meeting starts at 2pm

Best regards,

Tom Waters

Tom,

Having heard the Redefy One's can I suggest a different power amp? I feel they may sound a little thin with the Plinius. Anyone got a Ref 110 they can bring along?

Cheers

Hi Andrew,

It should be fine, i think we can run the class A mode :), and it would be good for the club to use amplifier that are familiar :). Im considering to bring the tube pre as i like them very well.

cheers

Henry

Redefy would like to thank Sydney Audio Club for the opportunity to show our first commercial product, and for having faith in us to deliver an enjoyable musical afternoon  :thumb: . I also would like to thank Mike for bringing his Marantz SACD player and Plinius SA-100 and Steven for preparing the accessories to make sure for a trouble free afternoon :).

I hope @@Viognier, @@guru, @@TomW can share their view of the day :).

cheers

Some pics of the day. A big thankyou to henry218 for his efforts in bringing in and introducing us to his Redefy One speakers. It was a very enjoyable and well attended meeting and the debut of the Redefy One speakers didn't disappoint.

Thanks Steve, appreciate it. I used spikes for the stands and speakers to level the speakers with the high chair we got there :).

For the record, although i did bring @@MellowFellow's (sorry @@mellow fellow, you two have similar SNA name... :D )Rythmik 12" DIY (fine cabinetry, btw!) subs, at the end we didnt use it, as the members thought the bass was good enough ( not thundering... but seems sufficient, especially at the back of the room :D )

Current Setup is an LG smart TV, HDMI out into my Yamaha AV receiver. I watch & listen to my content through the apple tv or chromecast, both of which are hooked into the receiver.

If I want to access apps through the TV, so the native Netflix app on the TV for instance, I get no sound - what's the easiest solution?

Should add, the toslink optical input is being used on the receiver from my Google Audio Chromecast.

Edgar Kramer does a great review in 6 moons http://6moons.com/audioreviews2/redefy/1.html

Extra Info: Left speaker with bass unit on right hand side has a slight nick in the top front edge from moving into place, its like a tiny nick in a resin cover over wood- hard to see unless close up - I have touched up and probably could do better but you cannot really see it unless close up. and when the speakers arrived the tweeter was not working, I tried to undo the horn Allen keys but resin varnish was holding in place i spoke to Henry from Redefy Audio who created them and after touching up the scratch marks on the allen keys and removing the bass driver to find a simple loose solder joint to the tweeter so 2 secs and one solder later and they fired up beautifully...and they never looked back but i bought two sets of speakers at the same time and have not got space for both.

They are very very special speakers and sound amazing, and would be 3-4 times the price if a well known international brand, the 15 inch bass just thumps you in the chest and the horn loaded tweeter supply sublime top ends, a lovely combination detailed by Edgar Kramer on 6 moons perfectly. With high end Italian drivers and a sublime build and finish they are amazing speakers and certainly no need for a sub with a 15 inch driver each side, they are simply too big for my life and wife and my 3.5 metre wide room and only selling to keep the forward facing set of bass drivers for my room set up otherwise i would keep forever they are that good.  94DB AT 8 OHM SO VERY EFFICIENT AND WORKED WELL WITH MY WESTON ACOUSTICS TUBE OR PS AUDIO BHK PRE POWER and Vitus pre power. To be in context they are second only to my b and w 802D's and bettered in my opinion my Wilson benesh Vectors which truly says something as the WBV were sublime but just a bit too small for my listening habits
Conclusion. The Redefy Audio Two are true 3-way designs featuring high-efficiency drivers, an extremely well-built and finished enclosure and thorough overall engineering for what is, these days, a very reasonable $8500 asking price. Henry Kristanto had a self-imposed mandate: launch a brand of speakers offering superb overall performance at affordable prices. In this intro, I asked "does the world really need another speaker manufacturer?" Henry Kristanto's Redefy Audio's Two has answered with a blaring bugle blow. And it's a blast asserting a resounding ‘Yes!' Based on the excellence of the Two, I'd wholeheartedly agree and call this a superb addition to the local and hopefully soon global high-end speaker landscape.
