RankStranger
This little beauty belongs to a client of mine. It seems to work but we can't figure out how to operate it properly. All I am able to get out of it is a muddy low-volume playback that sounds as though it's playing in reverse. Could it be the tape loaded in wrong? I haven't had any experience with these machines Does anyone have an operating manual or some first-hand experience working one? I have found a service manual/schematic online but that doesn't help. Thanks in advance
Telecine
These are a nice deck. You will find the user manual here: http://beophile.com/?page_id=11093 These units contain an amplifier that will no doubt need a recap by now along with other attention. Best of luck with it. RankStranger
Thanks! That's awesome Any suggestions for someone to service it in Melbourne? Should I just call B&O?
Zaphod Beeblebrox
Sounds like you have loaded the tape the wrong way 'round. IOW: You may be playing the backing layer, not the tape. Check the heads, make certain they are clean, of course. Try reversing the tape (IOW: Play the other side). VanArn
Has the tape been recorded on this machine? It is possible that a pre-recorded tape could be a half or full track copy. Otherwise dirty, worn or misaligned heads , guides are the cause of the low level and possibly skewing of the tape.A worn pressure roller or gunk on the capstan are other causes.A service shop needs to have specialised test tapes to correctly set up a tape recorder. You could try Broadcast Workshop P/L at 476 Victoria Street in North Melbourne who are specialist repairers of professional tape recorders. RankStranger
I suspected the tape may be loaded the wrong way. I didn't load it, nor did I try to reload it, not knowing what I was doing. Now that I have the instructions I'll see if I can get it to play before we take it to broadcast workshop. Thanks for the info.

It will be worth operating the button on the left side, labelled 1-4 and 3-2. It may be that simple. That and dirty heads, of course.
