Off the grog!!

Recommended Posts

Yeah, the whole BMI thing is just bullshit. I am 182cm, large framed, currentl weight 89kg. Apparently my healthy weight is 61-82kgs.

Who the hell are they kidding? 20 years ago I was stick thin and weighed 82, so 20kgs less than that and I would have to chop off both legs!

I agree that the whole BMI thing is really flawed and even my doctor agrees. At 75KG I am still supposedly 6-8KGs over weight and I tells ya if I get to that I will be almost invisible :)

Good luck with it, Darren. Some great reasons for giving up the grog, too!

I've done Dry July the past two years and by the end of the month, it really does get A LOT easier to say to yourself, "no, I don't really need the alcohol right now".

All the best :)

The relentless and blanket marketing of alcohol also makes it very difficult to quit or even lower the intake. This and fast/junk food are a marketer's dream and many people's nightmare.

The exquisite irony of a bourbon whiskey company playing a lead sponsorship role in motor sport is one such example.

Advertising has never influenced me, that I am aware of, haha.

@@bzr we used to be 'big fella's' but the young'uns stare down at me these days. Eating too much dead chook, the cheeky buggers.

Yes, I know it will get easier once the first few hurdles are crossed. A high one will be this coming Friday night, when I usually look forward to knocking off work and going to Dans. The week wont be an issue as I don't usually drink through the week.

Nup, I get up at 5am for the walk, home by 6;30, and at work by 8-8:30.

Tonight, I have some power cable experiments to do, as per the Aus cables thread. I must away!!

PS, not being a validation junkie, haha, but I have never had so many 'likes' for a thread. One only imagines that this issue I raise must strike a common chord amongst us Gen X's??

Darren, kudos for recognising the problem and taking the steps to address it. I'm also off the beer, and haven't had a drink since Dec 6th. Combined with better diet and regular (moderate) exercise I am currently 14kg's down in that timeframe (from 87kg -> 73kg). The first few weeks were tough, especially over xmas. I don't really 'do' tips but if anything try and find some alternate pursuits to keep the mind and body active to avoid temptation.

Best of luck Darren, if I recall correctly this has been something you've given a bit of thought to in the past - SNA may have collectively talked you out of starting just before Christmas last year. Everyone is right behind you now, no question.

I can never do more than a couple of months myself, however those dry spells are getting more frequent.

You could be onto something with the gen x'ers: previous gens may now be older and more responsible, gen y's are still young enough not care and the x'ers still young enough to be open to temptation but some have enough life experience to see trouble coming and act on it.

Congrats on taking the hardest step.
