Metal: Currently Spinning

Recommended Posts

Im currently listening to

Danzig - Danzig III How The God's Kill

Goatsnake - Goatsnake Vol. 1

Orange Goblin - Big Black

Supersuckers - Sacrilicious

Tad - 8 Way Santa

Monster Magnet - Greatest Hits

Monster Magnet is good fun. Bought that one a few weeks back.

My newest are 100 Thoughts of Violence - Kekal. Indonesian progressive/tech black metal. A little different but I do like it. And Requiem Mezzo Forte - Virgin Black. Haunting, soaring and gorgeous.

Currently have on Undertow, by Tool. I'd upload a cover like the rest but I'm far from sober (what a coincidence) - as such I don't think I'll put in the effort to do so. This is one of my favourites, and although the CD is both produced and mastered really very well, the vinyl still shits all over it. As it should.

I just found Tool Undertow and Aenima vinyl rip torrents...hmmm

Just listened to Opeth Blackwater Park. I've always thought that this is a totally overrated album and this listen did nothing to change that. Now listening to Watershed. I think it's considerably better than BP.

Cheers.

If they are the 24bit/96kHz versions, they're well worth getting - I've only ever seen one vinyl rip of each album at that quality, and I believe that's all there is circulating. Aenima especially, because ... well, the vinyl itself is as rare as hens teeth - and very pricey to boot if you were to ever come across one being sold.

I got Stinkfist, Sober and The Grudge. Unfortunately I couldn't say I was impressed, in fact they are inferior to the CD versions IMO. The bass is louder and more round and there is less detail overall. I did use my SB3 to play these so it's actually downsampling them to 24bit 48K because that's it's maximum. It was certainly worth a listen though. I reckon on a bright sounding system/room these might be a more enjoyable listen than the CD versions.

Cheers.

I can actually contribute to this thread

I mistakenly spun some Scottish Pirate Metal yesterday.

Alestorm - Captain Morgan's Revenge

All I can say is I think their drummer is a 120db metronome stuck on 200bpm. :D

Id almost buy it just for the cover though.

Ah Anthrax. Great stuff that! Last night was brought to me by Nightwish- the makers of Once. Finnish "power metal" with plenty of soothing choral and orchestral arrangements.

Tis a great album. I think I'll put that on now, in fact :o

Apparently, apparently, the album is something different again if you listen to the songs in a different order! The order being:

6,7,5,8,4,9,13,1,12,2,11,3,10

by song number. I'm yet to do it, but hell - to begin an album with the Parabol/Parabola combo must some at least SOME merit :D

Also my favourite TOOL album. The fact it's HDCD is icing on the cake. The production glistens compared to 10,000 days

Lately I've been spinning the new Arghoslent 'hornets of the pogrom', first skitsystem 'gra varld...' and martyrdod 'in extremis'.

Oh my... to think I just discovered this thread

Currently been getting into some black metal

Dimmu Borgir

dimmu_borgir_stormblast_front.jpg

In both it's orignal and rerecorded forms.

A good listen, with a great tempo on the rerecorded version.

Dissection

dissection_storm_of_the_lights_bane_front.jpg

as well as their earlier The Somberlain.

Both have been great albums. Probably more on the melodic side than black metal would tend to be though. But finds I've been very happy with.

And then spending more time with

Dream Theater - Images & Words and Awake (I've really focussed on their later, more metal work till recently, but quite enjoying these as well).

Metallica - Master of Puppets has been getting airply again

In Flames - Lunar Strain, which has a distinctly folky feel to it

Hi JiriAU

I have all the Riverside cds but I think Second Life Syndrome is their best. Great band. Great guitar work. Can't wait for a concert dvd. Prefer them to Vanden Plas as well.

Have a listen to Signal to Noise Ratio by Dead Air Radio.
