Be awesome if you could PM me! Thanks guys hype Yeah the new album wait has been too long Cog - Aussie band first 2 EPs are VERY Toolish but with each new album less so, that said The New Normal is brilliant and for Toolish checkout Anarchy OK.. Russian Circles - Instrumental but pretty cool, check out Harper Lewis.. Porcupine Tree - More proggish but pretty cool some heavy tracks like Anesthetize.. Riverside - Again more proggie but pretty cool check out Hyperactive.. OSI - Similar to PT, sometimes with a more electonic feel.. A Perfect Circle - Maynards side project, surely heard of this but hey. Opeth - Many put off by cookie-monster growl which I hated at first too but they grow on you, check out and awesome riff The Funeral Portrait.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GwWXCs38Q8 And a few more Aussie bands.. Karnivool The Butterfly Effect and one of my favourites Twelve Foot Ninja.. Hope the youtube links are right as I have no sound atm Also this is very handy last.fm's similar artists - http://www.last.fm/music/Tool/+similar

The Butterfly effect were/are awesome, sadly they split a while back but make sure you buy all their discs! Karnivool are great too but then I love the birds of Tokyo.

likwidsh0k
Twelve foot ninja was pretty cool man thanks for tip kinda cross between faith no more and me bungle, singer is very mike Patton People should really listen to me more Mentioned this band half a dozen times and no takers.. Agree completely on the Mike Patton comparison, and their first EP New Dawn is brilliant.. Followed by a new Melbourne band .. pretty cool EP this.. crossover album with different styles like reggae and a Jamiroquai-esque funk track, with a voice similar in sound and style to Mike Patton and each song gets its heavy prog breaks.. Playing this one alot Twelve Foot Ninja - New Dawn Bands like Tool is also a quest of mine too Been home checked out my collection and have sound, got some more bands worth checking out.. Fanboy clones - Cire and Prisma don't even bother with these blatant ripoffs. Indukti - This band had real potential with the first instrumental album and then the followup that had a couple of great tracks like the opener Sansara and this, but then fell off pretty hard and unfortunately into Tool clonish territory.. Animals as Leaders - Another instrumental outfit that I find gets a bit heavy going but this is my favourite track (live).. Mastodon - Talking heavy time to progress.. Crack the Skye is amazing and tempted to posts track but really need to hear it complete. Disillusion - And getting a bit heavier again the opening track should give you an idea.. Opeth - Back to good ol' Opeth and think these two from Ghost Reveries are probabaly a better indication of what they do with 10+ min songs full of different structures etc.. Pure Reason Revolution - Dark Third - And from very heavy to very soft - very PT-ish with 60s female female+male vocal harmonies, brilliant debut however the next two go from bad to godawful! Alrighty that's pretty much Tool done but a few more of interest being a FNM fan gotta have some.. Incubus - Fantastic mix of funk alt metalish and these three: Make Yourself, Morning View and A Crow Left of the Murder... Filter - Maybe a bit more electronic and Amalgamut is pretty cool, but my favourite track is the epic Hey Man Nice Shot from their debut Short Bus that also appeared in a cool X-Files episode starring Giovanni Ribisi.. VAST - With Richard Patrick the founder and vocalist of Filter being a guitarist for NIN live gigs.. segway to this industrial/rock debut album that is essential.. The Devin Townsend Project - Ki - Metal madman from Strapping Young Lad did plenty of solo gear too, and this a part of a 4 album project is his coolest with kind of jam blues vibe with heavy crunching riffs and female vocals.. Ayreon - Isis and Osiris - And to finish a couple of fav tracks, this one again with female vocals over the crunching riff.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubPDWJ1l-LI Sepultura-Chaos A.D. - And if you are a manga fan you will recognise this immediately.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oas3vX4S0Q Alrighty So we have bands like Tool, bands you might like if you like Tool, and just some of my favs based on Tool & FNM. Have a listen and lemme know what you think and should be able to drum up some more.. might also like some of these no spaces bands.. sleepmakeswaves http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZSL_7W5Rqw maybeshewill http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1nrtRLhvuQ Ok, now I'm done If you have any recs hyper or anyone else we'd love to hear 'em. I'll post some later, although in interim, have you heard "lunatic soul" didn't realise it was under rivers side project, a lot of the stuff sounds kinda like a chill out electronic version of tool and tea party
