emesbee 3,168
Mark Knopfler has done some good soundtrack albums. Local Hero (fairly obviously). A Shot At Glory, one which seems to have been overlooked somewhat. I actually rate this as one of his best soundtrack efforts .

Monty 1,993
This the gold standard for me. A friend gave me a Balinese pirated tape copy when I was nine. I loved it as a kid. As a teenager it was musical lingua franca, almost universally liked by friends with otherwise different tastes. Looking back this was one of my earliest exposures to soul and r&b, which has grown to be my favourite stuff. It seems to get faint praise critically but with Al Jackson, Duck Dunn and Steve Cropper for a rhythm section and cameos from Aretha , Ray Charles, JB and Cab Calloway, I reckon it holds its own okay. My kids like it too. I gave my 7 year old the MOV reissue for xmas.
