Been a laid back afternoon with William Fowler Collins, Sam Haven and finishing with Dvory.

Not going to get all the way through it coz it's nearly 2 hours.  But damn it's a good laid back ambient drone album.

Love that album.

I'm spinning this one right now:

Hotel Neon - Live At Star's End: (WXPN-FM) -- a 60 min live mix of soundscape, drone and noise. "Name Yer Price" lossless download from Bandcamp.

There's an 80% deal on the Hotel Neon discography right now ... very tempting.

One of DS lesser known albums, ambient doodlings that don't really seem to go anywhere in a hurry. Pleasant in a early Eno sort of way, tho at times reminds me of the original blade runner OST.  Does get a bit noisey/ discordant in spots.

Wings Of An Angel - Rutatreng -- normally this prolific artist releases albums that are drones, or random walks across the piano keys, but this one is more traditional ethereal, drifting ambient. Very noice. The entire Wings Of An Angel discography is currently US$1.50 for over 250 albums, so plenty cheap for plenty interesting and weird stuff.

Ambient Jazz , Is it a thing?

If so, who good at it and any recommended albums or compilations ?

The Necks -- a lot of their less atonal albums. e.g. Sex, Aether, Open, Drive By

Bohren & Der Club Of Gore -- also called Dark Jazz ... very slow and atmospheric

Wings Of An Angel - try Subordinate Every Thought To Deception And Fair Danger, which is a 97 minute jazz/ambient experiment.

Some Miles:

Maybe what you need is the "The opposite to hard bop and lounge" jazz thread?  There is surely a space in the map of the landscape of music that covers this terrain.

m-space is a multi-folded n-dimensional space where every genre borders every other musical genre. Sometimes the borders and ability to cross them is easy to the point where the boundary is blurred because it's been trampled into the dust (country and western) and sometimes there are musical places where not many players go (New Zealand heavy metal bands that sing in Klingon).

Unfortunately, I don't have a passport for the ambient//jazz region, so can't help with your query.

Geoff's right: start with The Necks and find groups that are like them.

"Vidna Obmana's LANDSCAPE IN OBSCURITY is an impressionistic study of isolation, memory and lament. Somber saxophone leads and floating flute lines (by Italy's Caprio Trifoglio and Diego Borotti) mix with clouds of floating electronic ambience - to evoke a feeling of isolation a cold city gives off in the dead of night." - Chuck van Zyl/STAR'S END

Album description from 1999 Hypnos release: Explorations into unmapped landscapes... VidnaObmana is Europe's foremost practitioner of atmospheric and tribal ambient sounds, and already has nearly twenty CD releases to his credit.

I bought that CD back in the day ... well worth a yoink.

There's also this one made available for "Name Yer Price" for a few days:

Sunday night and so we put on some ambient music. But despite the title, this is from the school of ambient that is rooted in tinkle-plunk synthesisers and is a cousin to scaled-back doof beats. A little too ordinary overall, but a couple of keepers in this compilation (such as Centuras' contribution).

Well it's Sunday night, I'm drinking, and listening to very cool minimalist music.  Maybe not quite ambient as such, but there's just as much less, as there is more.

Hungry Ghosts.

Thinking about another beer.  At which point, they'll be something just as mellow playing.  Although perhaps something a bit more electronic or piano over strings.  Something Isis derived maybe. Daniel Menche, William Fowler Collins, even Randall Dunn?

It's Sunday night, need to wind down.
