Dvinn
No sure I post this under the right area. I got my eye on a Refurbished Linn Sondek LP12. http://www.hifirestorations.com.au/linn.aspx I am about to pull the trigger. (Wife Approved.) But want to see what other expert here think? I am currently running RP3 with TTPSU with 2M Black. I will move the 2M Black to the LP12. I assume (or I hope) I can hear the difference..... And Also wondering has anyone deal with HiFi Restoration before? So far the seller has been really helpful and answer lots of my questiosns. Cheers,
andyr
Yeah, Andrew @ HiFi Restorations is a good bloke. Regards, Andy
wolster
If he is a good bloke, he might let you try it in your system. A reasonable request if spending that much. Listening in your system in your room will tell you if you want to pull the trigger.
Telecine
What is the approximate serial number of the deck? For example, 87xxx. That will tell us and you a lot about the constituent parts and enable us to provide better advice.

Tasebass
personally i would go with the other one at a smidgen under $4k....a bit pricey but if they have done the work as stated and over some short term warranty good value IMO like to know the details surrounding the "Repainted plinth!!" tase. C'mon, Tase - from a dedicated "Linnie's" PoV any painted plinth must sound definitely inferior to a stock, natural-finish wood plinth! Tasebass
I am curious about the Micro Seiki Tone arm. I assume they not stock arm right? correct.....but that does not mean its a bad match just unusual as I have never seen one on a Sondek before. If all is set up well there will be no issues. Can you demo the unit?? ATBTase.

Dvinn
LoL ~ Thanks guys....I know the guy who sells it is actual the tech from a Hi Fi store and he suppose to be Linn trained technician. I assume it will be setup correctly. I'll ask him about demoing the unit tomorrow. And he is happy to offer the 3 months warranty and setup with my 2MBlack. Thanks for the advise .... will let you guys know what happen next
andyr
I am curious about the Micro Seiki tone arm. I assume they not stock arm right? In the early days of the LP12, Linn did not make a tonearm - hence a Grace arm was commonly installed. Then Linn brought out their first arm ... but it wasn't very good, compared to what else was out there - so in 1979, when I bought my LP12, my Linn dealer recommended a Dynavector DV505. The Micro Seiki will be fine, I'm sure ... and Andrew will be able to discuss what options you have. Regards, Andy
Tasebass
- so in 1979, when I bought my LP12, my Linn dealer recommended a Dynavector DV505. off topic...........that's unusual Andy as that's the year the Ittok was introduced!!!

Never heard a DV505 though listened to quite a few Ittok's all on Sondeks. Have a nice Day!! Tase. Edited September 24, 2014 by Tasebass

Willco
so in 1979, when I bought my LP12, my Linn dealer recommended a Dynavector DV505. Regards, Andy Hmmm-- Well don't know if I'd trust that dealer Andy--the DV Arms were known to be too freakin' heavy to get the stable balance and "bounce ' correct for the Linn I tried -Ok it worked on my LP12 but it still ended up Arse down-unless one flaunted the Code of Linn and shimmed the rear spring I had the Oracle Delphi at the same time-the DV was borderline for that -but did indeed compromise as Oracle did supply different tensioned Springs for the rear right Stanchion to compensate for Arm weight. Willco Graeme Rodwell was a very far-thinking character, IMO. He was interested on all sorts of influences on sound, way before I saw them being discussed in the hifi press or on the Web. Sure it was heavier than ideal (at 1.2kg) but he supplied it in place of the Linn arm as he felt it made an LP12 sound better. By the time the Ekos came out, he had stopped being an official Linn dealer (because he wouldn't toe the official Linn policy of displaying their whole range) - so I never knew whether he thought that was good or not. Mind you, he didn't just supply stock DV505s - he felt there were 2 problems, which needed correction: He replaced the bearing race as he felt they were not optimal (I remember him telling me that air transport in an unheated airplane hold caused this problem?), and He changed the offset angle of the stub which connected the small arm to the main arm, as he felt the angle chosen by the DV engineers was wrong.
