I was actually famous in my last year of high school after I recited the entire song of Alice's Rstaurant ( including differing voices and accents when required ) on the way home from a weekend school

Just revisiting this one, Dirt Farmer by Levon Helm. I picked this one up a few years ago at a music sale, think I might have posted something about it before, but can't quite remember when that was.

Can't go wrong with these two for a start                Cheers,   Keith

Not familiar with that song but have seen the Old Crow  few times including an extraordinary performance of Blonde On Blonde

Here’s a great by Fred Eaglesmith

I first heard this song as an encore by Kasey Chambers right at the start of her solo career

Could have heard a pin drop

Very much in keeping with that Ry Cooder record

His last record has a song on it about his 2 favourite people Woody Guthrie and Jesus

One  a communist and the other well you know

But the message of each one is the same

Blessed by bluegrass

Bit late to bluegrass but glad I discovered it

Jerry Garcia on banjo(so much for banjo being uncool)

Peter Rowan on acoustic

David Grissman on mandolin

John Kahn on upright bass

Vassar Clements on fiddle

in bluegrass and country music in general God is only ever a note away

Drifting too far From The Shore is one of my more recent Favourite songs

Johnny Cash and Earle Scruggs do a great version

Below is an example of the head full of useless information I’m forced to carry around? instead of learning how to change a lightbulb

I think I posted this before which is ok for old people when they know they did something but a problem when they repeat themselves without knowing lt

hoefully I’m not that stage yet

Bob Dylan’s relationship with the song

My favourite ever cover of a Hank Williams song

The Blackeyed Susans

Great unheard Melbourne band via WA

Australians really don’t deserve music as good as this

Spin the bottle is their high point for me but their “dedicated to the ones we love" covers album is pretty amazing. Dan Luscomb’s guitar tone on I Found a Reason is just perfect. There’s no other word for it.

All afternoon listening to Bob Dylan and John Prine

Just switched over to a playlist of love songs

I only know about 50 lovey doves sort of ones that are taking place in real time unlike the thousands that are told in retrospect after the singer has been dumped?

Johnny Cash and Emmylou in case you are looking for a karaoke moment?

Words are their to read along while Spotifying it

I used to own a Led Zepplin record?

Then I saw them live in Sydney

The screeching the screeching and a 20 minute drum solo

Stairway To Heaven yech

Ive never heard a Led Zepplin song since

So I ignored the record he did with Alison Krauss when it came out

A friend of mine gave it to me to listen and I was gobsmacked at how good it was and Robert Plants great singing

And this album could even be better with Buddy Miller among others playing Guitar and Patty Griffin helping to sing

Funny thing is It took one of America’s finest bluegrass musicians Alison Krauss and on this record finest hillbilly guitarists Buddy Miller to bring out the country music singer that Led Zepplin hid?

(I think he had a fling with Patty shhhhhhh)

These girls, The New Graces, are getting a bit of air time with Hadley on 2GB. They are Robyn Martin [sounds a lot like Sara Storer ] - double bass and lead vocal on 'Seasons. Kate Burke - fiddle, mandolin, steel string guitar and vocals and Melanie Horsnell - guitar and vocals.

When in doubt

Johnny Cash

Suitable for any occasion

Love God Murder

Sort of

What I’ve got

Where I’m going although not soon

And what I’d like to do to Twump supporters?

It’s not just music that was better in the past

i long for the good old days when drinking 2 beers didn’t feel like a drinking a 6 pack??????

I don’t guess those days are’nt coming back any day soon

I just remembered my long suffering wife is at work and I’ll have to go and burn some toast in the pretence I’m having tea
Is there anything better than Hank Williams

Probably not

But Richard Thompson singing one of his songs with a little help from Buddy Miller is pretty good

A Weeping into your (3rd)beer kind of song

Not the band that recorded one of the most influential records of the 60’s although not at the time

I just love all that hair

Protest songs are never far from the surface in rock n roll or Americana

100 million little bombs about land mines

The wonder out June Carter Cash and a song about her granddaughter and Nick Lowe’s daughter that name checks Quinton Tarintino

Pretty cool for someone who knew Elvis married Johnny Cash and was the daughter of Maybelle Carter

Whenever I think of Johnny and June I think of June waiting there on The Far Side Banks Of Jordan

She only had a few months to wait

Not written by Johnny but when Johnny Cash sings a song it belongs to him

Hey, country tragics!

Gerry Hale's Uncle Bill recorded an album called "One Day at Adelphia" in 1998. I have a copy in my library that I ripped from a now-departed friend ages ago (it was and is impossible to find for love or money). Unfortunately I don't have the cover and it literally doesn't seem to be on the internet anywhere!

I know it's a long shot but, if you have a copy of this disc, I would be eternally grateful if you could PM me a scan or even a good photo of the front. I'm housekeeping my music library and, out of 2600-odd albums, it's the only one I don't have a copy of and it's giving me hives ?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Simon, I’m a huge Uncle Bill/ Gerry Hale fan and use to catch them all over Melbourne for many years. I’ll have a look and see if I have a decent copy of One Day in Adelphia and shoot you a PM if I do.

Cheers,

Keith

Tidaling Lucinda Williams new record

Lot of electricity

Bleak vocals

More political than her other records

Man Without A Soul about Twump but I think misses the point

The people who voted for him will still be here in numbers long after he’s gone

They are the point

Can’t  see any way out of the swamp for America
