Country music or what young people know as Alternative Country or Alt country

Recommended Posts

for no particular reason ? here is an article explaining what Americana is and where it comes from

I came across it looking for pictures of the record cover of WTCBU

I know how much young people like acronyms that baffle me?

It is long but there are lots of videos

Thank you Citreon,

Can't believe I missed this.    I will sneak into JB HiFi in my Covid bubble suit some time to buy a copy.

In the mean time I downloaded a Flac version of the Album from Bandcamp where Jason and Amanda do a live duo version of the CD.    Plenty of the reviews claim it is better than the Studio CD.

Cheers.

Regards Cazzesman

Listening to folkie stuff I bought in the early 70’s

This kind of music was great all those decades ago and I’ve never really not listened to them and probably like them more now

In a way I’ve actually grown into them especially the sound (as in the music and vocals ) and what the songs mean beyond the romantic entanglements

From memory I would have read about them in Rolling Stone magazine

About 90% of the records I own are because of record reviews

Hard to believe what a great magazine Rolling Stone was until the late 70’s

Another artist who has eluded me until now. Sadly, it turns out that I'm a bit late getting to the party.

Sadly missed.  His contribution to the Australian blues scene was enormous.

He used to do regular music-related book reviews for 'Off The Record' on RRR and always so insightful.

See if you can get one of his DVDs.  He had his own special style on stage.

the amazing rhythm aces
a great band to see live

now wouldn't that be a treat right now
let's hope that this new lockdown set of rules(which i totally agree with) works and we can rid our beautiful country of this insidious virus and get back to normal so we can see the musicians both local and international do what they do ,make ♬, isn't that that got us into hifi.

Thanks Keyse, the album is on it's way to me as we speak.

Unpopular? Well, we all know what popular music can sound like.

I love this record and the half dozen songs with Johnny Cash are among my favourite JC songs

Includes Bob’s song Song To Woody

Banjo has to be one of the best instruments

My Ship Will Sail has to be one of my favourite songs made perfect by Earle’s banjo

Lot of great songs in country music about death and this is one of the best

Really enjoy this album. Great voice! Unusual to get a country mono pressing these days. Eagerly waiting for new album supposed to be out soon.

Speaking of Davey Crocket

Which I am

One of my first musical memories is of a song called Old Dan Tucker

Back in the 50’s when I was in singles figures but I can’t remember if I heard the song or read the words in a Davey Crockett comic when his good fictitious friend George Russell sang it so to speak

One things for sure I was somewhat bemused to hear Bruce Springsteen cover it on The Seeger Sessions?

No idea why I remember things like that

I wish I could recall all those science lessons I had as well

Not what I was intending to listen to this afternoon

Harlem River Blues

I love the song

For singing along to the chorus

In my mind

Where no one can hear me?

When I heard it live realised it was about suicide

Lot of great sing a long type songs and then one day you realise the subject matter is a long way from the cheerful tune

Working for the MTA is one of hundreds if not thousands of train songs

Lyrically and sound wise it’s very standard train song theme and like most of his records could easily slot into the 40’s or 50’s

But probably the only song ever written about the New York subway

Great record and one of the very best of America’s young country music players
