eman
Saw an article recently about a massive tape upgrade Sony released. Some sort of breakthrough about tape having the capacity for a huge amount of storage per square unit of surface area unavailable to digita. I don't pretend to know. RN (Radio National) show 'The quiet space' regularly plays new releases on cassette.

davewantsmoore
Saw an article recently about a massive tape upgrade Sony released. Some sort of breakthrough about tape having the capacity for a huge amount of storage per square unit of surface area unavailable to digital Could this have been to do with storing digitally encoded audio onto tape? Tapes currently have larger data capacities (> 6TB) than the largest hard drives. Edited May 14, 2014 by davewantsmoore
gz76
Only if Dr Dre puts his name on them. There is truth in this statement. However for anyone wondering, these tapes are typically used for data backup, not portable audio.
Demondes
as an archivable back it would be nice. I have around 5TB of music, and an extra backup would be nice. Although the tapes and drive would want to be cheap given how cheap HDD disk is now becoming. There should be 5TB and 6TB HDD drives flooding the market shortly, and then only a skip and jump to 10 and 12TB.
