Peter Brotzmann - 14 Love Poems Plus 10 More

Brotzmann solo is always good but this one is special, lyrical.

Took a day off today to clean records. This 3LP set was the first one I cleaned and immediately listened to:

The Stan Getz Quartet - Live at Village Gate, Nov. 26 1961

Music_20190809_0001.jpg.7b973216caf9e4fba886f1250c8c813d.jpg

Sound quality is decent but not great. Pressing quality is perfect. Really like the warm sound of Getz' sax just before his bossa nova period.

I have been playing quite a bit of Wynton Marsalis of late, Magic Hour is on at this moment.

I just wanted to make an observation in recording technique that WM and the Marsalis family in general seem to use and see if anyone else has noticed it?

The recordings seem to be very extreme left and right with instrumentation whether its a piano or a drum (although all is subject change to where it appears in the soundscape) there is predominance of the instrument coming from the speaker box itself, contained in the speaker box.

It's not unpleasant but goes against the grain of the usual favoured enthusiasm for speakers to disappear and for music to emanate from almost anywhere else except the speaker box.

It can be used to great effect, watching Deep State on SBS and the opening credits use Talking Heads' "Once in a lifetime" as the theme music and the phrase "how did I get here" is inside my right speaker box.

Anyhoo, anybody else noticed this about Marsalis and Family recordings?
