Just listening to a freshly cleaned Windham Hill release, and I can understand how people get excited about these as far as SQ and pressing quality goes, but the music? Am I alone here in feeling the output from this lable is musically anaemic? Look for a bundle of these in the classifieds before too long.

Hey Mick, let me know if you have any Michael Hedges or Robbie Basho in that lot and I'll grab them 👍

Embarking on an evening of Dave Brubeck.  Kicking it off with the album below which contains one of my favourite Dave Brubeck pieces, “Unsquare Dance”.  Excellent liner notes from Brubeck himself, displaying his incredible knowledge of music and structure and some of the stories and work behind the pieces. This version of the album is the  1961 Australian mono version.

Followed up with this ‘time’ album (originally titled Brubeck Time).  In my view it has the distinction of having one of the most unattractive album covers, in terms of both colour and artwork.  Luckily however the jazz is good (though the sq is only average).

Tonight I'll be concentrating more on the bop and modal eras. First up is a memorial album dedicated to an outstanding trumpeter who's life was ended way too early.

I believe Michael Hedges appears on a couple of compilation albums. Certainly nothing to really sink your teeth into any of his work.

Time for a slow down prior to bed. Buddy Collette sure knows how to blow emotion out of a sax.

End of a lovely evening with my parents over for dinner.  In the background we went through the following Dave Brubeck Quartet albums. Very relaxing and perfectly consistent with an intimately comfortable mood:

Time in Outer Space (dedicated to Capt. John Glenn)

Jazz Impressions of Japan

Jazz Impressions of New York

The Dave Brubeck Quartet in Europe

Jazz Goes to College
