An old town hall (Sandgate) with bloody uncomfortable hard seats, but this is my only criticism. Enjoyed the 2nd set more, but I've found of the 4 times I have seen them, this has been the norm. But damn, Chris Abrahams needs to learn to smile. Someone had a squeaky chair at the Nexus Cabernet in Adl last year. His usual thousand yard stare pulled focus into almost vaporizing the poor uncomfortable punter on the spot. You're right about the second sets, it has been my experience too. Great to see them still playing small venues, the more intimate shows do suit their style. I have not enjoyed the past shows at the Opera House so much. I feel too detached and edgy at there for some reason. I hope to be visiting SEQ more frequently in the future, and I should look into what gigs are happening at those times. I'd like to reconnect with my childhood home of Brisbane a lot more. Perhaps our paths shall cross one day Right now I'm zoning out to Joe McPhee and Brian Eubanks - My Undocumented Alien Clarinet LP on Penultimate Press. A very sensitive analog recording of a low key live set from 2006. Electronics and reeds. Strange and beautiful.

t_mike
In 1975, the Super Bowl IX was held in New Orleans. To entertain the crowds, the main room at The Fairmont Hotel was used as a venue for these two musicians. The performance was recorded and this record was the result. There is an amount of dialogue with the crowd and it sounds like they had a cracker of a time. Edited February 6, 2018 by t_mike

jazzdog@groovemasters
Les Brown And His Band Of Renown Les Brown's In Town. EMI/Capitol Records – T 746, Mono Australia. Again, very good. Tight big band swing jazz & disc is NM, don't think it has been played before, which is lucky as not many people could afford good equipment back then. Has the Green-turquoise 1950s Capitol label, so likely 1956 press. I think it was the house band for a T.V variety show. Red Skelton maybe or someone similar? Danny Kaye?
