The John Coltrane Quartet ‎ 1961 Africa/Brass. MCA Records ‎– VIM-4609, Impulse! ‎ AS-6 GAT, Promo Japan 1980.

Pressed by Victor. the label is white. Discogs have it listed as a promo & as it has Japanese script on it  is unlikely to be a MCA rainbow label misprint.

Most likely a promo, or maybe even a test press that someone put a cover on. The matrix may reveal something.

Time to get loungy.

Wild Bill Davis - One More Time

Wild Bill Davis - organ

Grady Tate - drums

Calvin Newborn - guitar

Paul Gonzales - tenor sax

Les Spann - flute

Janet Putnam - harp

This album reminds me greatly of entering a movie cinema, and intermission time at same, back in the days when I was a young child. The sense of pre-movie excitement comes rushing back. This is the style of music that was played.

Dave Brubeck Quartet - Gone With The Wind.

Not real sure what the story is with this pressing, the writing on the label of side one may indicate a test copy? The cover also shows the remains of a number of sticker removals. Regardless, it's in pristine playing condition.

Some Joe McPhee with his Trio X

Lived In Vilnius originally only had a vinyl release from No Business Records. It's long sold out, but today purchased a Flac copy from the site, and burnt a disc.

A brilliant trio, this is awesome.

Mine is a first press on Riverside. From memory it is mono, and there is no reference to being mono or stereo anywhere on the label or cover. I have no experience with later releases so can't help there, but if you're not familiar with the compositions, I'm sure there will be some youtube.

Not remarkable David, or in the same league as many of his better albums.
Put it this way - very rarely play it!
Sooner listen to Gerry Mulligan presents a concert in jazz or a good freebie I picked up recently - Gerry Mulligan quartet - "what is there to say " or of course "Mulligan meets Johnny Hodges".
Will bring over a few next week to sample.

I have to agree with the evil one on that statement. Mulligan/Monk is stashed somewhere I can't locate now, but this was readily at hand.

Others may not like the whole LP, but I was blown away by their version of Straight no Chaser when I first heard it in the early sixties - listening to it again now, I don't think I've changed my mind!

cheers

Thelonious Monk And Gerry Mulligan ‎Mulligan Meets Monk. Riverside Records ‎– 673 012 Australia.

Mine is a repress.  The disc label has the Stereo symbol but it doesn't

sound stereo to my (unreliable) ears The album is in the Bop, Cool Jazz style (thank you discogs) but with a swing. l agree with that both artists have done better collaboration albums (with longer play times) but definitely worth buying if you see a good condition copy for $20.00 or under  -its good jazz.
