Timeless, classic songs

Recommended Posts

Bobby Beausoleil's version of Nature Boy. Yes THAT Bobby Beausoleil and it's pretty good.

The song is a classic, but its sound and orchestration may not be 'timeless'. Is a modern cover possible without spoiling it?

What I would have done over the past 40 years to have actually seen this clip.

About time for a reboot. This song is just exquisite. @t_mike remember this? The whole LP is amazing.

Yes I do. In fact I found another of their albums in the stash. Every time I give it a listen it reminds me of Mi Sueño, an album of boleros by BVSC member Ibrahim Ferrer.

I just had a quick read of the Bolero Wiki entry. Interesting history, and as you suggested, the Cuban Bolero has a direct link to Los Tres Diamantes and other Mexican artists, through the songs of Mexican composer Maria Grever. According to Wiki, the Cuban Bolero is at the root of many popular Latin styles e.g. the rumba, mambo & cha-cha and probably many others. It's even taken hold in Vietnam! Very cool.

Later versions may be better, but this is the original and holds up well.

Does this qualify as a timeless classic? I think so.

A great song, rendered sublime by Billy Strange's brilliant arrangement.
