Australian AV and Audio Show 2014 is in....Melbourne

Sydney's loss, Melbournes gain.

They mention the huge attendance, probably the deciding factor. Look I am personally pleased that they are holding it back in Melbourne but to be honest I am rteally pleased that it is viable and they are holding it again.

I love the venue but found its layout very confusing.

Would much rather see it held elsewhere.

You wanted thoughts, that's mine.

Woo hoo, I'm definitely going to this and I'll make sure I'm completely skint and the plastic is maxxed out so I can just enjoy the show without the temptation.

What could be simpler eh.

I don't get the lure of audio shows in this day where we have the internet.

Bad acoustics of the rooms mean that you are not hearing the equipment at it's best.

If the reason is to meet up with buddies on the forum or perhaps snagging a bargain at the end of the show, then I understand.

Otherwise, why waste the money and time attending something that the internet or your local hi-fi store will give you? i.e. information.

You are missing the whole point of the show.

So what about car shows? The cars sit on display, they don't go anywhere, they don't start them an you can't drive them.

I suppose they are a waste of Money too?

Yup - I don't go to those anymore nor see the point of them too. I've been to both types of shows before and have not found them worth the trouble or money.

Perhaps if the shows were the CES and Tokyo Motor shows, it might change my mind about them.

It sounds like you have made up your mind that that you think they are a waste of time and money. Each to their own.

I've been to quite a few of both types. One of them was even the Bangkok High End show that I happen to stumble upon. Haven't been to a car show since 2000.

Recommendations for dining if attending,

The guy grossi bistro attached to the hotel is very good and the pear tart is to die for on Thursday night, Friday evening would see movida aqua work well and vie bistro for Saturday dining is delightful if not "not cheap". Sunday after packing would see the wine bar next to the European come in handy. Hints and tips for future exhibitors can be coerced via PM.

Regards, g.

yeah nice venue, but I did find the layout confusing too. am not sure I even got around to everything ! maybe they needed to upgrade the signage or something, but apart from the initial bit where registered it was pretty vague from then on where everything was....lost amongst the hotel rooms.

I did like the idea of the show too. theres a lot of stuff I saw there, wouldn't set eyes on or experience otherwise. the seminars as well a very good thing. I hope they continue on with those.

good to see returning to melbourne :)

Whenever i'm in Melbourne i walk up to Brunswick Street to Nyala, an African restaurant. Superb food. In fact i find any reason possible for visiting Melbourne just to have a meal there.

Does anyone know attendance figures from last year vs this year? I felt that Sydney had twice the traffic on the weekend...

Apparently Sydney is slated for 2015.

No idea of the numbers but my impression was there were less people at the Sydney event. I went on the Saturday in Sydney and thought it was a dissapointing turn out.

I thought the venu was quite good as the rooms were of a decent size and the location is good for public transport. That matters more than the layout which was a bit confusing but not enough to kill the event for me. If you want confusing try going to CES in Vegas. The only thing I thought was needed was a bathroom on each floor (so you didn't have to race back to the basement floor).

I suspect the show gets better support / participation from vendors and industry in Melbourne, and that would be the deciding factor. Most I have spoken to also mentioned that Sydney "appeared" to have greater foot traffic, but that's difficult to really know without audited, published attendance figures (which I wouldn't expect).

We will of course be there, but with a completely different approach this time, and a focus being on a social hub for our members to meet up at, chat and hang out at.
We'll also propose a StereoNET dinner on the Thursday night or Saturday nights.
