Denon 4520 vs Onkyo 3010

Recommended Posts

Hi

For the life of me, I cant decide which of these 2 receivers would fit my requirements best. I plan to use the front preouts into a seperate 2 channel pre/power valve set up and then run the centre, surrounds and 2 Rythmik subwoofers from the receiver. My room is 6m long x 4.75 wide.

I've narrowed it down to these 2 receivers largely due to the Audysey XT32 and Sub Eq for my 2 subwoofers.

Really looking for what gives me the best sound for HT, as the 2 channel will be dealt with seperately.

Would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Cheers

Dave

Hi I'm no expert so I'll just mention what I have read about Onkyo. In past models, Onkyo have a reputation to run quite hot but I'm not sure if that is still the case. As with any AVR ventilation is important. As for sound quality for HT I don't know how much of a difference there would be as both have the same EQ, it might come down to personal preferance.

I've recently purchased Onkyo's TX-NR626 which is a midrange AVR and obviously a number of models below the one you are looking at.

I'm very happy with mine ... it's got lots of features including, wireless, bluetooth and 4K pass through and has plenty of power for my needs.

I just run it in stereo mode with the TV, Foxtel and Blu-ray conected up and it drives a pair of Usher S520's.

I'm very impressed with the SQ of this AVR as the Ushers sound damn good and they punch out a decent amount of bass when driven by the Onkyo.

I would assume the TX-NR3010 would be more of the same quality wise ... but with more channels, more power, more connectivity and more features!

Thanks for the replies.

I ended up going with a Yamaha 3030 instead. Got it for a good price and I like the sound so far. Exceptional steering and the surrounds and sub channels have really come alive. I wasn't expecting much from Yamahas eq YPAO but have been pleasantly surprised. Highly recommended!
