AVR Recommendation

Recommended Posts

Just bought some EPOS Epic1 Bookshelves. Will probably add a centre later.

What's a good value avr to pair them with? Preferably with airplay (or if i have a spare ipod touch can i just airplay to it and leave it plugged in?)

Looking at:

$480

$350 (this was $300 at start of year so may be able to haggle?)

$560

I think you'll find that the Yamahas are generally acknowledged to be good for music, though I have never actually heard your speakers and so can't comment on how they might go together. Out of the 375and 475, the sound would have to be very similar - only the feature list would vary. I had a 667 a couple of years ago and was very happy with it for music duties.

with the quality of speakers I'd spend a tad more,

something like the nad

Had a Yammy couple years back can't say it thrilled me for two channel. Denon / Marantz may be more suited agree with :)al NAD would be a killer option

Just read that the epics are 4ohms

Will the yamaha 475 be able to drive them? I had my heart set on the 475 because all the reviews rate it quite highly for audio, price is within my range, and it has inbuilt airplay (which i really wanted).

Or should i be exchanging for:

(is it any different from the as500 which has really good reviews? but is 300 more http://www.rio.com.au/product/3/8/663/yamaha-a-s500)

Sorry for all the clueless questions

forget about inbult airplay, usually cripled and a $100 little black apple tv will do more.

forget about reviews too, while interesting reads, I'd never use as basis for buying decision. take your epos with you and go check out for yourself. listen to a few other brands and models while your at it :)

If you like music keep away from the Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo receivers. Been ther done that not worth it. It's like trying to race a Bathhurst in a 4wd. A receiver is built to do a totally different thing. The NAD as mentioned is however one receiver that is good at both.

Marantz also do a fair job:

I'd be going the NAD though.

OR a nice 2 channel amp.
