Just bought lenehans!

Recommended Posts

Just got lenehan ml2's and am looking for a 5 channel power amp to power them for my home theatre. At the moment i've only found Marantz MM7055 Is there anything else i can look for under 2k and in brisbane/gold coast area?

Welcome to SNA, Chris.

I suggest you ask your question in the home theatre section where more will see it.

May have a bit more zing than the Marantz.

I doubt it.... but OTOH, I have the big brother (8 channel) to the Marantz, and I give it only a B- ....   I have a few other stereo poweramps priced at around the $1500 and the performance difference is noticeable.... but that's out of budget, so I'm not helping.

Emotiva certainly have the $/watt under control.... but I'm not sure everyone needs that.

I just stumbled across this and was looking at the XPR-5 with 400w per channel? which is the newer model right?

That is the next and highest  model up the chain, more power but will exceed your budget landed. Looking at what others say about driving Lenehans, this would be the preferred model.

There will be plenty here who will knock Emotiva so you will have to do a bit of googling and read a bit wider to form an opinion. Their forum also has some reviews and good info.

How much HT vs music use?

Congrats on your new speakers, Chris, and welcome to SNA.

My 2c: don't hobble your speakers with compromised amplification. Give them the best 2-channel amp you can manage and then deal with surround sound later on. If you're rich enough to contemplate 5x ML2 then you're not going to have a problem with adding extra high-quality amps for the other three channels. But most people would end up using a standard home theatre receiver to power some less-capable surround speakers from its built-in amps, and sending the front left/right signals via the receiver's pre-amp outputs to the better power amp.

Agreed!

Classy speakers.

So, analogy time - don't take the high class escort to the local Maccas. The experience is not much value for money...

I think the best idea for your amplification needs would be to get a high quality 2 channel amp for the fronts and follow up later once you have the additional speakers.

Those Arions are meant to be excellent!

What the last three posters said :)

I can't think of an HT amp that would do them justice - as long as you get a 2 ch amp with HT pass through capabilities you are keeping your options open.

yep best of both worlds. keep your 2ch gear running in parallel and yet in unison. whether a quality 2ch integrated or a 2ch pre amp wiht ht bypass :) get the best amp you can find to best suit your mains speakers :)

Get a proper amp. What Mike has told me I think you should go with the Arion's.

Agree with the other guys, get as best as you can for 2 channel and worry about the rest later.
