White-Faced Heron got our fish.

Saw it on the power lines when I came home (never seen a Heron near the house or on power lines before).

Two minutes later it was next to the pond and only then did I put two & two together....

Clever fellows aren’t they. Must cruise the suburbs checking for takeaway  treats in the local backyards. Lucky the nets work a treat stopping them.

Nets never crossed my mind :- we've lived here for nearly 30 years, aren't near the water, and as mentioned, have never seen a heron anywhere other than on the Derwent shore. This blighter must have been blown off-course & got lucky!  He did look a bit out of place balancing on the power-line.  Anyway, for the grandkids, we thought we might try to raise a few tadpoles next time around.  No feeding required. I doubt a Heron could spot those from cruising altitude....

Anyway - back to the photos.  There are indeed some talented photographers here & I greatly enjoy checking out their skills.

Made a 612 format camera from an old polaroid land camera and used the back off a holga 612 pinhole camera. Added an even older angulon 90mm f6.8, the old lens has some sharpness issues, so I have since put on a angulan super f8.

Anyhow this using the f6.8 is one I printed and split toned. Great format. hp5 120 film.

I see what you mean about the sharpness issues, but are you sure it's the lens?; as it seems strange that it's only unsharp on the far left of the photo, which to me would suggest that the film plane isn't exactly flat, or bellows were used and not quite zero'd.

I love the Ghostly feel of the center of the picture, the two dark trees either side of it really make you feel as if you are looking from one reality into the entrance of another.

The f6.8 angulon 90mm didnt quite cover 4x5 and I managed to mount the lens a 1/4" off center so it is worse on one side, also there was a bit of camera movement and infinity wasnt quite right. I have since switched to a super angulon f8 90mm and fixed a few things up. Easy enough to throw focus with the enlarger, better to have a good lens with plenty of cover and I dont open it up past f22 so focus is good, can only guess focus as the film back is fixed. Really expensive to buy anything 612, so made my own.

Heres a couple of more recent prints Ive been working on. I like the 1:2 aspect ratio, twice as good as 6x6.

Weather is getting much better and the spring orchids are starting to flower.

Acianthus caudatus.

These plants are about 100 - 120mm tall and the flower is usually about 40 - 75mm long.
