Slightly off topic; I was curious about the new carbon ceramic brakes (CCB) offered on some of the new high performance cars. I can see the benefits for track use if you are an exceptional skilled driver who can late brake with the best of them. On the road, apparently no difference in stopping distance (just less fade with repeated stops). Soooo, I priced the cost of a pads and rotor service (replacement) and got back a quote of $21,000 plus labour for front only (Audi). WTF!

I could (tongue in cheek) see an ad for a CCB equipped M3 in the future reading something like "needs new pads and rotors for a roadworthy certificate, giveaway car please come and collect on a car trailer. Parked out front, keys in the car, first to come past can have it".

Thats Aldi tax right there., ask the about changing the oil in a DSG box 😳

From memory, R35 GTR was only about $7.5k for rotors and pads, once they were cracked past 5mm (from memory) and you could get aftermarket cheaper.

Both about to be posted on carsales and bikesales. The cat and the bird. Jaguar XF 3.0 V6 Supercharged and Suzuki Hayabusa 1340cc. The Busa has been a hoot, this tuned variant is making around 205 hp and has an insane amount of grunt even at 1/2 revs.

Time to consolidate the garage...

Nice......what are you moving to?

Not ridden a busa; have heard very good things about it - it's a legendary bike. I used to have a Yamaha R-1 a few years ago when I worked in the USA. Was an absolute blast - 170 hp with a dry weight of 170kg giving a power to weight ratio of 1000bhp/tonne. Have done 100kmph in first gear. Sigh, I miss that bike!

The Busa is quite misunderstood until you ride one. I took one for a test ride almost by accident (it was parked in front of the bike I was intending to test ride) and came away impressed. The monstrous torque and refined manners sold me straight away. No real thoughts of a replacement as there is a Beemer R1200RS in the garage that has been getting more use to be honest (the Busa can be too intimidating and focussed for a casual ride).

The random car of interest below is our Audi A6. Last night Bec was coming home from work an a large male kangaroo in the driveway took umbrage at the car in its territory and jumped onto the bonnet and windscreen. Bec was very shaken up, one more kick and the buck would have been in the cabin.

Yes, good point and it reminded me of this article I saw recently:

https://jalopnik.com/scuderia-cameron-glickenhaus-is-pissed-about-the-de-tom-1836211849

It reports that the designers of this Ferrari are not happy with De Tomaso, claiming they copied their designs of the P3/4, P4 and P4/5 for the P72......they may have a point.😃

Here's a P3/4:

https://pictures.topspeed.com/IMG/jpg/200605/1966-ferrari-330-p3-one-o-2.jpg

Here's a 330 P4:

Here's a P4/5:

As I said, they may have a point......some damning evidence there.

De Tomaso claim they were paying homage to the De Tomaso P70 from the mid '60's. Here's a P70:

Nuh! Don't think so........I still love the De Tomaso P72 though.🙂

I think DeTomaso has a basis for claiming the P72 is an evolution of their previous designs even if they were also influenced by the Ferrari designs.

Saw the P72 in the flesh at Goodwood - it is stunning and sounds wicked.

Wow, I hadn't seen the Sport 1000 and 2000 before.......a De Tomaso evolution to the P72 seems more feasible now.🙂

I always wonder about people trying to escape cops on the highway. Don't the car drivers realise the cops have their rego numbers and addresses? (Some exceptions of course.)

Yep, you can't out run a police radio. Or a police helicopter.

I didn't think I'd ever own Bang & Olufsen Hi Fi, but now I have a 14 speaker surround system. The 8200 rpm V8 sounds a whole lot better. Glorious :party

Bucket list car. Not that I'm planning on kicking the bucket anytime soon.

It is the RS5... We'll have to go for a drive when you visit. Last of the naturally aspirated V8's. An E9x M3 would have been another option but the RS5 is much prettier in an understated way. No bulges, flares and vents; it attracts a whole lot less attention.

A mate had an RS4, V8 soundtrack to die for and those massive disc brakes.

I cannot wait for a spin.

I guess Steve it doesn't have the 'look at me' bling of many of the Euro heavy hitters like the C63 AMG and M Series Beemers (all awesome cars BTW). It is indeed gorgeous, and could easily be mistaken for a pretty suburban 4 cyl commuter. I like the concept of subdued car design.

And I don't need attention from the police :/

There is a lesson there about parking (or stopping) a modern car in long grass. I heard a similar story about 20 years ago with a very expensive Jaguar on loan to a journalist. The Jag was driven through some thick lawn clippings on a wet road the clippings dispersed themselves into the engine bay. An outright fire was avoided but the car was smoking when stopped for fuel.
