The old man had one of these and he sold it for next to nothing and didn’t tell me. 😢

Going through my old mans photos and found this. Him and his twin brother saved like crazy and bought it together.

It's with a heavy heart that I announce this:

Today, I drove the famous Col de Torini, the jewel of the Monte Carlo Rally, one of the best driving roads in the world. Why a heavy heart? I drove it in this:

D7K_5581.jpg

It's a Toyota Auris Hybrid 'Sport', still referred to as a Corolla in Australia. If this is a state of the art mass-market hybrid then so help me, the quicker we all move to EVs the better. I know that I have a selection bias as my regular driver in Australia is a Tesla Model S but where to start on this car: if there was any truth in marketing it should be labelled an Auris Hybrid POS to start with; The 'engine' is good for little more than charging the on-board battery that seems to have the capacity of a AAA battery. The CVT is horrible, the steering wheel is attached to the steering rack with 2 rubber bands and the car is suspended on a couple of jellies. Driving it on these roads is like getting an invitation to a party with the world's hottest most desirable women and realising that you are out of Viagra😡

Now, you could argue with some merit that this is designed as a shopping trolley, rather than zooming around the Italian and French Alps but this mobile chicane had Fiat Uno's riding for kms on the back bumper it was so slow. Perhaps, this is the worst new car I have ever driven and I'll be really pleased to return it tomorrow.

To rub salt into the wound, I was offered a manual Mini Cooper S by Budget at Nice airport but had to turn it down because it wasn't large enough to accommodate 2 suitcases and a bike.

It is amazing how Toyota can get it so wrong, do they not think people who buy hybrids value driving dynamics. Perhaps you need one of these Prof.

Our new Snowdonia weekend fun toy is a Legacy (Liberty) STi S402. the only Legacy model ever to get the full STi treatment. The car is loaded with pink bits, big brakes and a wider front end. It handles superbly and feels super nimble and light on its feet

Simon, we used to have a Spec B Liberty (3 litre flat 6). Same overall performance as the Liberty GT here (had the WRX running gear) but no low down torque. It would feel like a supercar in every respect though, compared to that Auris.

The S402 has a 2.5L twin scroll, plenty of torque down low especially with a close ratio STi 6 speed box

Feel free to add any pics or stories on any cars of interest.

Got a few iphone snaps of Rock n Roll George's beast today. I've seen the car cruising the city since I were a lad, and then lived in West End for 20 years and saw him every other day. Brissy has of course decided to adopt the vehicle as an icon of something or other since the departure of George, and it now lives at the Qld Museum.

I just looked at this thread for the first time and first pic is of a car my old man still has since 1966.  Still drives but doesn't have all the Nasco bits and pieces this one has.   Same colour though and better nick.
