VAF
This is the official VAF DC-X35 thread. The DC-X35 will be shown at the Australian Audio & AV Show in Sydney 19-21 October (Next Week), and you'll see an offer for the first 50 in a seperate VAF Show thread. We won't reveal all here just yet, but the new DC-X35 builds on the previous platform with smoother response again, better dynamics again, 10% deeper bass (as if its predecessor didn't go deep enough), and 10% higher bass power handling too Prices will start at $2,999 in Black European Oak. Other finishes will be available. A DC-X35cc centre speaker will also be available for $1,799. Every set will be individually serial numbered for each owner, and a gold plate on each speaker will identify these limited edition speakers. Questions welcome...
adamp
Ooh. Cool. So what has been changed compared to the Gen 4 MKIIs, in terms of drivers, crossover, cabinets? Will this eventually replace the MKIIs? That power pack looks like a pretty great deal.
Philip Vafiadis
Yes, the Power Pack offer is definitely aimed to please. Regarding what is changed between the DC-XG4MKII and the DC-X35, well actually a fair bit. To the eye they look very similar, but there are deeper differences. Highlights are: Woofers. The new ones are modified in a different way and you can see different damping. It cost us a tiny amount of sensitivity, (still over 95db/w), but the result was a smoother response and more controlled roll off (without crossover) to the tweeter. Sound is more 'integrated' and 'smoother'. This has allowed us the ability to cross the tweeters over a bit lower. As there are twin tweeters power handling has never been an issue for the DC-X since the G4. Lowering the crossover has 'opened up' the midrange, as well as the off axis sound (performance). Right from the first Generation 1 DC-X in the 90's no DC-X has ever had a traditional crossover on the woofers. This is no exception on the new DC-X35. The DC-X G4, G4MKII, and 35 do have a filter on the woofers to shape response and in the new 35 we have kept this simple but using beefy components. the inductors have under 0.1 ohms in line impedance. what this means is that there is almost no electrical resistance between the woofers and your amplifier. The job of all amplifiers is to damp the motion of the woofers, not just send out a signal, so a low resistance means much better control and much better dynamics. This is one aspect of active speakers that some find compelling, but VAF is delivering this with passive speakers. The cabinet alignment is different as well, to take advantage of all the changes. this delivered deeper bass than its already famously capable predecessor. power handling is also increased at low frequencies by about 10% too, so dynamics are simply fantastic. all in all, an evolution, but like the step we made between the Signature i93 and i93 MK2, it was a big step. I hope folks like it!

VAF
I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing the new DC-X35 plus the rest of the VAF gear at the show. Hi Beetle, say hi when you get there. The phone here has not stopped ringing since we put the word out about the new DC-X35 so we're anticipating a few request to audition them at the show. We've presold about half of the first 50 production run even before the show has started, so if you are interested don't be shy. While VAF production continues uninterupted, the VAF office will be manned Thursday but not Friday or Saturday.
beetle
I am very interested. I spoke to Simon at length earlier this week regarding the DC-X35. I'll be there on Saturday afternoon to check them out and audition them. I hope I can get there before you sell all 50!
beetle
The DCX-35's were very impressive, but as you know, I ordered the i33's. Thanks for a great presentation and for what I believe to be the best speaker display & demo at the show.
goooobags
Both myself and my father (who isn't overly interested in Hi-Fi stuffs) listened to the DC-X35's on the weekend and agreed that they were the best speakers (and the amps) for someone looking for great sound but without the five or six figure price tag, they also looked great and don't stick out like the proverbial. Great to hear the i90 and i93 as well, thanks to VAF for coming to the show

Philip Vafiadis
Good to hear peoples impressions. Very interesting indeed. Philip - will the X35 replace the DC-XG4MKII in the line up? We made the decision to go with the new DC-X35 variant only three weeks before the Sydney show. Those who have heard these speakers already know that they have a lot in common with the DC-XG4MKII, however the improvements we have made has delivered a clearly better sound. We decided we wouldn't keep two models so close to each other in our range, and we concluded that the DC-X35 will replace the DC-X G4MKII. All new orders for DC-X will ship as DC-X35, and at the new $2,999 price, except the first 50 pairs that we are selling for $2,099 to get a few into owners hands to seed the sharing of experiences with them. For all the owners of existing DC-X G4 and DC-X G4MKII, VAF will soon also offer an upgrade modification path from DC-X G4, and DC-X G4MKII to the new DC-X35. We hope to be able to offer the upgrade shortly.

cazzesman
I currently have the DC-G4MkII version. I have just sent off an email to VAF about the upgrade of components from G4 to x35. I was wondering if anyone has compared the x35 to the i33. At at 40% price difference, how would you rate the Cost/SQ improvement ratio? I run a NAD C390DD 150w digital amp with a SVS SB12 sub at the moment. All audio is flac via my standalone audio pc. Regards Cazzesman
everyones_shadow
Can the new DC-X35s be ordered with the tweeter module turned through 90 degrees so it can be used as a centre channel? Cheers ES

Zoo Tv
Yep :-) What would the price be for 1 DC-X35s Phillip? And how would it compare as a centre compared to a full DC-X35cc? (I have a pair of DC-X35). Cheers. Steve
VAF
A few things to ask. Can you call VAF for a quick conversation?
Rodney
Have had a pair of these bad boys for a few years and been really happy with them! Looking to upgrade my amp so interested in any recommendations for what others are using and how they have found those amps matched to these speakers. I play an equal mix of vinyl, streaming and CD through them.
