progladyte
I have been asked a few times to list some of the sites I use so here goes. Naturally, you can always bookmark any you like. Rate Your Music - Huge database of music ratings and reviews- It would be surprising if a title you needed info about was not listed here. https://rateyourmusic.com Gnosis2000.net (This is probably the largest website in the world exclusively dedicated to recording the ratings of a selected number of people from around the world and concentrating only on progressive rock (and sub-genre). If you are unsure about a particular prog rock title, it will be listed here unless it is very new (but would be updated soon after). My only complaint about the site now is that there have been so many really obscure titles that have been added for rating by the members, unless you lived in Europe, UK or USA, chances are the names will totally elude you. Still, an excellent site none the less. http://gnosis2000.net/ Prog Archives - Another excellent site listing a plethora of great music (with reviews) http://www.progarchives.com/ Dutch Progressive Rock Page (one of the best review sites around) https://www.dprp.net/index.php Sea of Tranquillity - review site for progressive rock / metal https://www.seaoftranquility.org/ Other Sites Progressiveears - American website dedicating to discussing progressive rock music http://www.progressiveears.org/forum/ Record labels and Sellers Musea Records http://www.musearecords.com/boutique/anglais/index.php?style=1 Cuniform Records http://www.cuneiformrecords.com/artists.html Giant Electric Pea https://www.gep.co.uk/ Doug Larson Imports http://www.douglarsonimports.com Amazon US https://www.amazon.com/US/s?k=US Syn-Phonic - huge catalogue run by a real prog fanatic. http://synphonicmusic.com/ Galileo Records https://galileo-records.com/ Burning Shed Records https://burningshed.com Inside Out Music US https://www.insideoutmusic.com/ ProgRock Records https://www.progrock.co.uk/ Another site I used quite a lot was Cyclops Records in the U.K. but I think they may have folded as their site doesn't look like it's been updated for a while. It may be best to avoid looking for this one. Enjoy! Prog

If you've played it more than 4-5 times, it should have sunk in by now so perhaps another spin in a week or 2 might alter your opinion. There have been so many times I played an album at least 3-5 times, put it away for a while and finally enjoyed it a few weeks later.. It will be interesting to see if it works for you as well. Keep us informed. You gave me that very advice on this album - and you were correct Steve Hackett – Voyage Of The Acolyte

If any progsters on SNA don't have this one yet, you can take it to the bank, you NEED this....... This is the album that Genesis (or Peter Gabriel for that matter) could never have written. It's songwriting is simply stunning with so much variety and naturally is accompanied by some of THE most melodic lead guitar work you are ever likely to hear. This is one of my highest rated and most cherished albums of all times.

Keep us informed. Don't have the cd Greg. For me it doesn't pass the Spotify Test (how many times l listen to it). So hardly going to fork out good money. Anyway, l decided to really cut back on my music spending. How is that working for me you ask. Not very well. Ordered 2 CDs last night, and what...we are not even into the first week of January. Always when I've had a few red wines. The really smart move would be to stop drinking................nah!
progladyte
Well fellow progsters, I have to agree with Ken regarding Fish's new release. I played it another 2 times today and I'm still underwhelmed. This will be relegated to the back of the far Q pack for a while until I am looking for some deja vu moment from a great musician that has historically delivered so much great music over the years. It then might work its magic but for now, I have plenty of others to savour.

I think the other songs on the EP that are not on the new album are better as well than what is on the rest of Weltschmerz. To me, the EP sounds more dynamic to my ears for some reason. They also seem, to me, to flow and sync into each other better. For mine, the new album is all over the place. Maybe that's it. Don't know? But for me you can't go past these 3 albums: A Feast Of Consequence Fairwell To Childhood (live) 13th Star. Ken

Ken I also like: Vigil (1990) Internal Exile (1991) Sunsets on Empire (1997) RaINGODS wITH zIPPOS (1999) As with Marillion, he has plenty of official live releases & bootlegs which stands to reason due to their touring schedules.

It also has great bass and drum work by Rutherford and Collins respectively. Hackett's output has had a few hit-or-miss outings. I love the guy but cringe a little at some of his world music attempts (some are great, but some miss the mark). But I find myself coming back to this first album a lot.

awayward
Scardust- Strangers, just arrived, the vinyl of my favourite prog album atm, such talented musicians, they would be rich if they got paid for each time signature change per listen. Wow! 1st play of the clip "Gone" and I must admit to enjoying this. The keysman is awesome the guitarist is awesome that bass dude is killer the drummer knows his way around a kit really, really well (and thankfully not very much predictable double bass drum speed pedaling like so many wannabe metal bands do. The singer, man what a great range. Just as an aside, I'm not really into growl vocals and whilst I realise they have somehow dubbed her voice over a mans, it works well as it was not overdone. Do the rest of the songs have the growler on board? IF not, I may snag me a copy of this.

Just a couple of songs with a growler, but it is not over used and actually fits the songs, I'm not a growler fan either. The album is quite diverse, most of the album I'd class as heavy prog, but the slower softer songs are really good also.

progladyte
Well Chez Prog is in ruins.......... My study that is....................... I have had to dismantle all my cupboards, CD shelves, stacks, racks and packs all in the name up a long overdue update seeing we moved here in 1993. I will be keeping my original custom desk, my music centre, most of my CD cupboards but will do a total repaint and the fitting of those wooden lookalike floor planks to match the rest of the house. This has been long overdue and one that has bugged the war office since 1854 B.C. So to appease the sledge hammer, I had a huge day of prog and other to ensure I kept the missus out of the room for as long as possible. It didn't work because she found the volume knob....... Still, a productive, if not humid day was had by all.

progladyte
Well after a morning at the local Mens' Shed, I settled in for an afternoon and evening of yet a little more prog. The top disc features Roine Stolt (Flower Kings / Transatlantic / The Tangent / Karmakanic / Agents of Mercy. The 2nd disc is Anubis from Australia - A Tower Of Silence. One of THE best prog albums from OZ. Martin Orford is the keys man for IQ / Jadis / The Lens. Ironically, he quit the music scene altogether when illegal downloads started to take off and basically said, if you're not going to pay for my music, then I won't bother writing anymore. This is a huge pity as he is a great player and this album is brilliant. The main song, The Old Road is simply stunning. That Kestrel album is also killer. Although not a thoroughly prog album from start to finish, it features some of the nicest mellotron you will ever hear and would not be out of place on a King Crimson / Genesis / Druid / Tony Banks song. If you're the impatient type of guy and just want to get to the good bits, scroll to the 3:50 mark and play from then on. Think "In The Court Of The Crimson King" Enjoy!
