I stopped buying regularly a couple of years ago from Mr V because of the prices, but I still poke my head in a couple of times a year. He has been very generous to me in the distant past though. YCC
Prices are generally more reasonable at country markets although the range is smaller and stocks are not as well-organised. Go for a drive and do some diggin' !
Guest Mr Thorens
Unfortunately those days from 5 years ago of being able to buy good used AU pressings for under $20 have long gone it seems. Glad I held onto l the albums I bought in the 80s. There are three places in the CBD that won’t sell anything useful for less than $40 nowadays. And a known popular band with the younger people eg Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Bowie, INXS etc seems to be $50. Went to Melbourne recently and in several stores the stock quality was much lower than Adelaide. Some people I work with say their 18-20 year old kids are buying turntables and vinyl. Bisguittin
I have said this several times in response to this issue on SNA. It currently seems to be standard practice in Adelaide, to market any record at peak Discogs NM price. Additionally, in my view, stock quality has been extremely variable of late. Even vendors at the Brighton Markets held at BHS, regularly have boxes of $50 lp's. I feel disinclined to pay this much at a car boot sale! don76
I was freaked out when I got back into vinyl and saw the prices. But then I realized that 20 years had passed since I used to buy used records for $10-15. I can also no longer rent a 2 bedroom terrace in Richmond for $140, buy a proper coffee for $1.50, or fill up my car for $30. Everything else has gone up 2-3 fold, why would vinyl be any different? Ooogh
The best thing I bought at Mr V was a Mr V tee shirt for my wife. Had his strange penguin with a walking stick logo. I think it was thread bare by the end and donated to car polishing duties.
