Kef speakers

I have found out a little more about a set of speakers that came from my fathers estate which are diy cabinets however have kef speakers in them. Below are the individual speakers and just need some guidance on an idea on price to sell them.

You can google for sale of those items and some archive adverts should come up probably around $50-75 each driver.

They may be worth more as a complete speaker if it is a well made, known design like the Bailey transmission line?

These are KEF Concerto speakers (no not the late 1990's incarnations - KEF - Concerto One, Concerto Two (1999-2000) - United States ) but the original designs from the late 60s and into the 70s.

These are an example of the kit version from the KEF Constructor series circa 1970s.  Easy to spot because of the plain non-veneered baffle-

The factory models look like these -

However at the asking price of $1400 a pair I think that line from the movie "The Castle" of "... tell him he's dreaming..." might be appropriate.   Geez, I've got two factory built pairs (one pair near mint condition in walnut). If  this seller's pair actually sell for the asking price of $1400, I might consider selling one or both of my pairs of Concertos.

 

The standard KEF DN12 plug-in crossover is pretty ordinary and benefits from replacing the the electrolytic capacitors with polycarbonate or mylar film capacitors as an initial improvement.  If you replace the ferrite cored inductors with low resistance air-cored units they sound even better but to achieve this the parts aren't going to fit on the plug-in PCB.

Love my Kefkit Concerto's, do about 10hrs a day either in stereo use or surround sound.

Vinyl wrapped and on very solid, heavy stands, look quite modern.

 

Found l liked a mixture of electrolitic and film capacitors to get the value's required.

With the straight film caps they were a bit bright.

 

The stands improved the bass nicley.

l would find it hard to better them.

 

Butt..... l do want a Sansui Alpha and l doubt they would handle the power.

The Concerto's are capable of shaking the house with a little Sansui AU505 with 12watts per channel, so l am unsure if  a Alpha needs all that power.

 

Could add a poly switch to the tweeter but need to experiment to weather l can hear a difference.

I added polyswitches to my T27A tweeters.  IMHO it didn't negatively impact the sound, but probably saved a few tweeter voice coils which are now virtually unobtainium as a spare part as a DIY repair.  A very simple mod that involves cutting a track on the PCB and tacking on the polyswitch.
