Inexpensive amplifier for DIY active speakers

Recommended Posts

I'm wanting to try converting my 2-way passive speakers to active.  This will initially be a "proof of concept" type project so I want to keep it cheap.  I need an expensive, simple stereo (or 4 channel) power amp.  I would probably also use it for general speaker measurements so small is good.  Are the eBay class d cheapies up to the task?  What do others use?

I have a 100W tripath class d I’m not using in a repurposed enclosure but only two channel. Very cheap.  Sounds detailed and fast. The module has speaker crowbar protection and is rated 180Wpc.

PM if interested.

TPA3255 chipset? can be set 4 channel, 2 channel, or various combinations.

TPA3118 / TPA3116  chipset? fairly low wattage (30 - 60) and of more medium quality unless the board is well built, but cheap and easy to play with, runs fine from 19V laptop PSU etc.
