Very excited to be a new member and partake in reading and discussions of hifi gears. I am currently keen on streamer transports to replace an old laptop running JRiver

Depends. But wouldn't be over $5k

:welcome:to the forum..

Lots of options from a few hundred to $5K and lots more. Sorry more questions.

Continue using JRiver? Do you want to DIY and put together an audiophile computer? Or buy a streamer? Music stored on same device?  Rip music?  DAC built in?

Some examples of streamers to start you thinking

https://nadelectronics.com/product/c-658-bluos-streaming-dac/

https://www.luminmusic.com/lumin-u1-mini.html

https://us.auralic.com/products/aries-g1

https://innuos.com/zen_mini_mk3/

https://sonicpurity.com.au/store/music-servers-and-streaming/antipodes-s30

The more expensive the unit, the better the power supply, internal clocks and chassis. Also a better DAC if built in.

No, not building one.

Lumin U1 Mini caught my attention. But concern about its switch power supply. Auralic is out too due to its bias towards Mac/Apple for control.

The Innous seem good but I don't need a cd ripper. To me ripped cd files don't sound anywhere near the cd itself.

Recently discovered Aurender ACS100, and DCS Network Bridge. In Stereo.net.au's review the indicated price is $6995, not $9995 as seen elsewhere on some Aus retailer websites. Any comments on these?

Hi Tiki,

you should check out the Ayon Audio NW-T DSD. It is a sweet tube sounding streamer, that will take away any harshness of digital files. In my opinion the best sounding streamer I have heard. There will be one up for sale on SNA pretty soon and it will fit in your budget.

Kind regards JayBee

Hi Jaycee,

Thanks for the recommendation. I will check it out.

Go up the Lumin range, D2, T2 for better power supply.

No experience with Aurender.

The dCS Network Bridge had a price rise 6-9 months ago!  So, now way outside your budget.

I’ve got a T2 in a box under my desk for sale right now

Unfortunately I don't need any with in-built DAC, just a digital streamer.

Thanks for clarifying about the DCS. That puts it out of my reach.

The Innous Zen Mk3 and Lumin U1 Mini are about the same price. Any idea how they compare?

I would not dismiss an in-built DAC so quickly.  A streamer/DAC has the advantages of not requiring a good interconnect, sharing the same master clock and good power supply (PS).  Potentially it can replace 4 boxes: Streamer + PS, DAC + PS plus a good interconnect.

You would find there are people here in both camps, Innuos and Lumin.  Some comparisons on other forums using Google:

At the end of the day, they will be a significant improvement over your old laptop.

Hey Snoopy8, thanks for the advice. I have just spent on a DAC. That's the reason I am not doubling up on the new streamer.

I will check out the links you have provided. Appreciate comments and suggestions everyone 's put forward.

Down the track I might even put in a DDC (digital to digital converter) between streamer and DAC.

The t2 can be used in transport mode via the USB port on the rear to an external dac.

Question... On the T2, if used as a Roon endpoint and with a USB Dac connected, does Roon see both the T2 and the USB Dac as endpoints or do you need to switch the T2 into a mode to see the connected Dac? I'm showing a little interest in your T2.

I can’t say I’ve tested it but i would imagine it would be the same as the u1 from a Roon perspective.

Roon to the LUMIN then usb to the downstream dac. I’m not sure it would detect the DAC via USB through the LUMIN.

You’ll just need to ensure you set up the t2 USB output to stream only the bitrates your dac plays nice with.

They are sensational even with standard Power supply, but easy to fit an adaptor socket and buy an Sbooster linear PSU like I did.

Then the U1 Mini is effectively the U1 without the massive price tag.

I would probably go down this route.

The SBooster is out of stock and there's no indication of a restock date.

What's involved in the diy?

Simply removing the lid, disconnecting all the wires to the internal power supply and remove.

There is one red wire that needs to be either desoldered as I did, or cut that connects to the IEC socket on the back.

Then just a matter of fitting an adaptor plate with pin socket and clipping on few wires to the main circuit board.

Here is with the plate fitted and wires connected ready to go.

You can  buy these from Groove Works here in Australia.

You could also look at an external PSU from Clay (Gieseler Audio). Great products and you get local support in case anything goes wrong.

Great suggestion,  just buy the adaptor plate with pin socket and wires from Groove Works.

Thanks for this!

Always good to have alternatives.

Do you have one of theirs? On a Lumin U1 Mini too?

I like having an upgrade path like this. Something to look forward to in small steps.

@evil c  did you notice much difference in sound quality? I am looking at one of these myself.
