These look Rubbish...

Whatever the ugly speaker you want, first tell your wife you want these and then "settle" on your real choice.

Vivid Gaia range but after hearing them I don't care anymore. They are amazing   They remind me of the alien from The Fifth Element

You can always drop a quarter of a million dollars on these. You just know that your wife would just love them. .......

The great thing about this ugly equipment is that I show these to my wife, and then show her some Sonus Faber speakers and get instant approval !!!

Having heard these, I'd be quite willing to swap the wife for them...

Ive got a pair and I don’t particularly like them. Send a photo of the misses and I’ll see if we have a trade.  I’ll have to clear it with my wife first but that shouldn’t be a problem. She doesn’t like the speakers either.

I suppose I should have known that there is so much bad design out there—it was (and is) prevalent in my field as well. While I appreciate new methods, ideas, concepts, I think that there needs to be some thought for aesthetics and elegance as well.

If I wasn't laughing so hard I'd be voting that this thread be banned and deleted as an offence to good taste.

Good materials and artistic design cost money.  Money that could potentially otherwise go towards (for example) a better power supply.  In addition, audiophiles are often lambasted on forums for "wasting their money" on audio "jewellery"... which probably marginalises the market for aesthetically tasteful AND good sounding equipment.

Well, yes, sometimes. However some of the horrible examples use very expensive materials and would cost a fortune to execute.

A friend designed a beautiful and capable motorcycle trailer, but found over time that the production needed a lot of time, effort, and left room for mistakes. He hired an industrial designer for the cost of a couple of trailers and in a year the design changes more than paid for the designer's fee.

I'm told they sound outstanding, but for me, anything with valves or that looks similar to the above is effingugly.

And valve amps don't need to look bad.  A nice cage for safety and aesthetics, with some detailing to make it look nice (eg. a tasteful badge or something that highlights the valve glow) doesn't cost too much.

I do like a form follows function aesthetic, and that’s what you’re getting with an amp like this. Everything you can see has a purpose.

I'm tempted to ask how you can tell, when none of the controls have markings...

One is volume, the other is channel selection.
I was referring more to the valves and transformers in my comment though - power on the left side, and two channels of amplification on the right. that’s the amplification right in front of you, it’s all functional.

If you ignore the fact there are no wires on the floor ... you can clearly see that these are merely a part of an all-Metaxas 13.7 system.

You would have to hope these sounded absolutely fabulous. Manufacture would surely be very expensive and the drivers look just as costly. Imaging going to all this  expense and trouble and they sound ordinary or worse.

Does this Italian Amp make coffees too?!?!?

What a brilliant idea!

Integrate a bluetooth speaker that plays certain tracks depending on your coffee order. Can be a concealed jukebox the rest of the time.

On that note, why not start a thread on repurposed audio gear.

So long as it is not ugly like this one:-
