These look Rubbish...

Whatever the ugly speaker you want, first tell your wife you want these and then "settle" on your real choice.

Vivid Gaia range but after hearing them I don't care anymore. They are amazing   They remind me of the alien from The Fifth Element

No doubting their ability, but I've always thought these things were hideous,

Morel's fat lady speakers are up there for me too, which is a shame as they sound devine.

I've flat out got to say the Linkwitz LXmini etc, are up there with some of the least visually appealing designs I've seen. Reminds me of some of the worst of DIY car audio.

And, despite me wanting to build them, that LX521 top design is pretty hideous too. But as Linkwitz sez, "Don't change it. Try to get used to it."L1000603-c.jpg

As if I have to tell you, of course on my face. ;)

And in plain dark colour, it is just SO wrong.

Phew! what were they thinking when they designed this? Did they get acquired by a 'lipstick' company?

A knife through the heart!!

but I can see where you are coming from and as for the mini's , I think its fair to say plumbing on speakers and good looks , never the twain shall meet.

I think the walnut lx521 doesnt look too bad??

I'm gunning to be the first person to build a wife approved pair of LXminis.. Watch this space, or there might be an ad up on the Classifieds for an unused pair at some point :(

It's dreadful too haha.

They were great rooms though for a show.  A lot better than small bedrooms.

Still these speakers are pretty ugly and I am a fan of the horn aesthetic. I wasn't wowed by them either. I thought they would be amazing with Ayon and the TAD drivers.

Generic photo to show not just the carpet bringing them down

On the other hand, if I'd owned those twenty years ago, I'm pretty sure the burglars would have left them behind!

This is especially bad as it looks like considerable effort and expense went into the visual design. It's not ugly utilitarianism, it's just bad taste. It's as though someone was half way through designing a coffee machine and decided, nah, CD player!

It's actually based, like a lot of their stuff, on the design of their old MC275 amp .
There's a lot of this going on at the moment - my Marantz amp has the "porthole" thing derived from the Model 9 power amp (at least it's not as ugly) and then there's the "Leak" pairing from IAG. It's about brands with different owners, different engineers, and different (and often so-so) products trying to claim "heritage" from the greats of the past. It reached peak pointlessness with the turntable, which absolutely HAS to have a blue meter - and truly meets their reputation, by being inaccurate into the bargain, assuming it's playing the LP!

Sometimes, trying to maintain brand identity does not translate across all products. This is a classic example of what not to put a VU meter on.

So its only a CD player? I thought it was their take on a mini-system.
