mrbugeyes
SOLD Item Condition: MINT. Shipping Options: Pickup available and you can audition. Suburb or Town: FRANKSTON - 3199 State: VIC Payment Method: CASH ONLY Reason for selling: ELDERLY OWNER IS DOWN SIZING. Further information: Greetings to all. I purchased this item at an electronics auction not far from my home around 3 years ago. It was listed in their online catalogue as " Akai tape recorder new in box ". I thought it would be a cassette player and was stunned to find that it was a reel to reel deck in mint condition. I put in the wining bid and took this lovely item complete with accessories and original box home. I had no idea how long it had been since it had been played so I rang an audio aquaintance who is a retired electronics service person and was doing repairs at his home ( he no longer does ) and he agreed to check it over. So this unit was fully serviced and new belts fitted 3 years ago and has only had light duties during my ownership. IT IS IN MINT CONDITION AND IS IN EXCELLENT WORKING CONDITION. THE SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING: Akai reel to reel deck - adapters for playing 7 inch reels - custom made brass pucks - 5 pin din to rca cable - 3 pre recorded tapes - a stack of used 7 inch reel to reel tapes - 4 NOS AGFA 5 inch tapes - accessories including 2 mikes (untested) - operator manual - original plywood lined box. The auction place is no longer operating. doogie44
Wow--what can't you find on this Forum?! And in good nick. I bought one of these in 1968 in Tokyo as a young lad and owned it for a decade. It has fantastic recording fidelity. [AKAI was on a technical roll after the larger 'M series' of tape decks. I grew up with an AKAI M-8 as the heart of my Dad's system running efficient Goodmans speakers (because those decks had the sweetest little dual mono pentode 5W amps within). I never knew I had it so good until I started my own hi-fi journey and found that Rotel was OK--but really lacking 'something' the valve amps supplied in spades. Soon enough I discovered VTL, but that's another story.] I usually ran it at 3 3/4 ips although 7 1/2 ips is 'better' for hi-fi (I see you have the reel adaptors for that). It can also do 15/16 ips--for speech and such! It's also quite portable with a fully-charged battery. Recording is fun. I recorded many LPs and mixes using this machine, as well as live instruments. Great stuff. After FM came in (Sydney) in 1975 there was the added bonus of broadcast live concerts and much better fidelity than AM... so much free music. No cassettes, no CDs and NO DIGITAL. Just pure analogue. You could buy quite a selection of professionally recorded tapes at that time in the 1960s. No man about town could have a functioning bachelor pad without a reel-to-reel deck! I am feeling very nostalgic. I note that you also have a stack of what looks like original Telefunken tapes (in the grey boxes)? Great stuff. A beaut intro to recording awaits some lucky member. lozzabeau
Can you record from an amplifier via the Din to RCA lead or is it just for playback?
