Hey all,

I am looking to spend $1000-1500 and am after my first set of HP's in 40 years. I have been recommended by 2 Hifi stores the TH610's

Can I do better at this price point?

Any more info, just ask

Cheers

Probably should state what type of music you listen to and also what preferences in sound signature do you have i.e. do you like alot of bass or detail or soundstage/imaging etc.

Also, do you care if its open or closed headphones? On ear or over ear?

Yes. Can do much much better.

Need to know if you need a DAC/amp too, and what said above.

There are so many options in the price bracket, I'm sure @Bengineer will have all kinds of excellent recommendations.

Even with a DAC/Amp I can think of plenty of great options! What are you listening to? Streaming services? CDs? Records?

Hey all,

I will listen to anything that is recorded well. But dont like country or reggae.

Mostly listen to 80s metal, but also love listening to doof doof music. (I do like my bass)

I am guessing that I will like closed as against open backed, but am up for options.

I listen mostly to CDs as well as FLAC files (roughly 1TB)

Cheers

Do you have a DAC?

Do you have an Amp?

Where do you listen? At a desk, lounge, pool?

Is the budget just for headphones, or of you need DAC/Amp, the whole lot?

I have an Auralic Altair G1.

I listen in my lounge room.

Budget is solely for Headphones

Output impedance of 50ohm on that G1. Savage.

I would be looking at the likes of, in no order;

Hifiman Ananda (Open) - $1000

Focal Elegia (Closed) - $600
Focal Clear (Open) - $1200

Byerdynamic T1 (Open) or T5 (Closed) Gen 3 - $1300ish

DCA Aeon 2 (Closed) - $1400ish

Stretch to;

Hifiman Arya - $2000

Audeze LCD-3 - $2000

Comes down to what sound signature you like.

The G1 may not  pair exceptionally with some of those headphones, but should do ok.

Haha. It's high. Will add some flava.

Some of those recommendations have a low impedance, running them off the G1 may just not control them too well. Might sound good or good enough, but won't be as good as they can be.

Focal Clear when A2A does those $1200 deals.

As new. Reciept. SNA most trusted headphone seller.

A old used set went for $1200 earlier this week. Regularly go for $1500-1800 used and out of warranty, $2000 for used and in warranty.

One listed above is mint and under warranty.
