Further information:

I bought this unit last week, it's unused.

If you are running a DAC that has a not so good USB implementation OR a DAC that has any I2S input then these units will give a bit uptick in performance.

The industry has had USB interfaces (converters) for some time. Over time, their outputs have increased to include I2S (via RJ45 and later via I2S). Singxer really made an impact in more recent years with its SU1 unit. It had a great sound but it really did respond well to tweaking and the clocks whilst excellent are not top of the heap.

I think of the Matrix SPDIF-2 unit is a pre-tweaked Singxer SU1 / SU2.  It has a DC input, rather than an IEC input so you can feed it with a good quality power supply and there should be less internal noise from the power supply. It also uses uses 2 Accusilicon high-quality femtosecond clocks. I believe it offers galvanic isolation across all of its outputs.

The I2S output is also configurable to suit "PS Audio" and "Audio-GD) formats. I2S goes up to 768khz and DSD512.

I've ended up going with a Singxer SU6 which is quite a bit dearer. Not sure if it's worth that much more than the Matrix though....
