Wow, I have just received an email from the dark lord himself!   Dear Ooogh,   Absolutely loving the suggestions! I am presently compiling a play list for our ‘Welcome to Hell’ bus

Well, it's a few days before Christmas.  A day I tend to dread since my marriage.  For it is evident to me that I have committed significant sins that can't wait to be punished in the afterlife.  Beel

Has anyone mentioned  " I've Never Been To Me" by Charlene?  A major emetic.

Don't you really hate it when fave songs of your "youth" are done to death in ads.

SBS you are guilty as charged, ads on high rotation and giving me the "irrits"

Rock Lobster: B52's: Optus

Oh Yeah: Yello: ANZ

You Really Got Me: The Kinks: Porsche

Not our Lucifer, he loves this stuff!  Nothing better than watching bands sell their souls to advertisers. The cherry on top is destroying the song for a generation of fans. The big red one calls this a ‘win, win’ situation.

Lots more laughs to be had watching old people cry when their cool stuff shows up on Supermarket soundtracks and in elevators.

It also brings a smile to his face watching Roger Federer sell pasta. Just knowing he is throwing another million on his pile of spondoolies to feed his ego whilst wearing his own branded clothing gives him hope that humility is truly dead.

Another great day in hell.

This one goes out to you, Big S

 And here's the religious inverse

Both great, kick-arse songs

You are just trying to curry favour Rodney.  You know he loves being called the Big S!  He might let you listen to a bit of Neil Young if you keep this up.

Dear Ooogh,

I must confess to being rather disappointed that @Tubularbells has not contributed seeing as our musical tastes are so closely aligned.  I was hopeful that he might be able to help me set up a killer PA so those languishing in the Pit of Despair don’t miss out on my latest tracks. The acoustics down there are just terrible.  Anyhow, I must get back to trying to wreck Christmas , such a busy time of year for me.

Hope you are not well,

Big Red

down,down - the coles jingle:

and by extension/origin:

I think their jingle effort has placed this band into a permanent no go zone for me. Not that I was much of a fan before but it certainly dropped this bands rating down-down some 90%.

I saw these guys at the old Apollo Stadium many years ago, probably the loudest concert I've ever been to. I used to think I liked Down, Down when it first came out, but everything they did from then on just sounded the same. Can't stand it now after the Coles sellout. I still play 'Pictures Of Matchstick Men' from time to time though.

1812 Overture - Tchaikovsky

7th Symphony - Beethoven
Axel F - Crazy Frog (originally known as 'The Annoying Thing")

Canon in D Major - Pachelbel

Macarena - Los del Río

I’ve been to the Gympie Muster and the Tamworth Country Music festival so I’ve already had to listen to the soundtrack to hell

Its why I’m now leading a Christian Life of good behaviour

Just in case?

Stairway To Heaven would fit right in

A song so awful it took Rolf Harris to improve it

And if you do end up in that unfortunate place you might need  an escape route

I'm sure the devil made them do it! Slovenian art rockers Laibach took "their version" of The Sound of Music on a tour of North Korea.

I am sure I'd suffer miserably if these were on repeat;

Come on Eileen

Grease Megamix

Mambo No.5

Most of the other previous responses are quite apt as well...

Great thread @Ooogh ?

haha, I know you're just trying to be provocative, rather than blasphemous about "Stairway to Heaven"

Do you prefer Leadbelly's cover (don't think they called them covers back then though) of "Black Betty" ?

The fact that there is only a "Stairway to Heaven", but a "Highway to Hell" would dictate that a few of us may be eternally tortured by these songs anyway.. LOL

I bought the album on the strength of the sentiment in that song! (Verse 2 in particular)

It's also one of those songs that get folk my age back up on the dancefloor after it's been cleared by playing a request. ?

What did you think of Spiderbait's version?

I don't like banjo however you distort it, I don't particularly like Spiderbait, and their version isn't a whole lot different to Ram Jam, so just another crap on crap really. My opinion at least.

Well, it's a few days before Christmas.  A day I tend to dread since my marriage.  For it is evident to me that I have committed significant sins that can't wait to be punished in the afterlife.  Beelzebub appears every year to let me experience hell.

Because the Christmas day tradition for my in-laws is lunch at my sister-in-law's.  And her favourite album - the only album she likes - is Mariah Carey's Christmas album.  And we have to listen to it non-stop.  No understanding that not all like it.  No understanding that those who do like it get tired of listening to it after the second playing.  No recognition that some hate it at the first playing.  All frustrating for me, as my brother-in-law has an excellent music collection.

As if that living hell wasn't bad enough, my sister-in-law insists on singing along to every song.  Loudly.  And if anyone tries to change it, or if anyone even attempts to turn the volume down slightly, all hell breaks loose.

As if that wasn't bad enough, last year someone at work brought it in and played it in our waiting area during December.  Hell came early that year.  At least we have the benefit of Coronavirus lockdown this year.  And I can assure you that Mariah's album wasn't played during December work from home!

Hmm, I actually like that song, but not for the lyrics.

Dear Ooogh,

Strangely people often think Christmas is a bad time of year for me, nothing could be further from the truth! Torturing shop assistants with relentless turgid Christmas Carols playing 24/7 is one of my secret pleasures. Watching the dead eyes of poor souls looking for a parking space in the 6 acre parking lot of IKEA fills me with unbridled joy and that is before they have the last vestiges of life sucked out once they actually enter that god forsaken place. I bought up big on IKEA shares just to twist the knife.

A real highlight however is when children discover Santa doesn’t exist. It would warm my soul if I had one!

Anyway, the constant grind of heating up red hot pokers and feeding the furnace often gets in the way of these simple pleasures. My thanks for helping fill my infernal jukebox with some long forgotten gems of mediocrity, I look forward to inflicting them on the long term residents down here.

Give my worst to everyone and have a miserable day,

Cheers,

The Big S, The Dark Lord, Devil, etc, etc.
