Turned off one of my systems that was shuffling tracks the other day.

And most of the songs on this album probably fit the thread criteria for anyone who got into the Femmes memorable debut way back in '83.

I dunno that many songs with just one note (although there are some drones that are centred on a single frequency which may count).

But this INXS song starts with a single note and I reckon if I could identify it easily from just that note:

Purple Rain by Prince.

Won me a gallon of beer in a pub quiz on the first note in a tie breaker.

The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever

Probably a bit unfair picking The Beatles, you could just about pick any of their songs they are so familiar.

I can’t believe this hasn’t been mentioned, should be number one, or Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven, Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water

many many moons ago...late Summer nights...windows wound down...we use to drive home from melbourne cbd eating take away and drinking coldies and we would have a competition who could get the most songs guessed first played on the commercial AM Radio...many, many were guessed just from that opening note...what a skill honed over many hours and now gone to waste...
