Newby Asking What Upgrades To Match My Fyne 501's

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new here and thought I better say "hello"!

Like many I guess I've had a stereo for decades and had just replaced components as they failed but hadn't realised how terrible it sounded until a few months ago when I heard a Miles Davis CD that I was very familiar with being played through a classic set of KEF Reference Model Series 3's.  Wow!

After a bit of study I bought a set of Fyne 501's to replace my  30 year old JBL's as they seemed to be well regarded best buys.  Wow, what an improvement!

Driving the speakers is a Yamaha RX-797 receiver and CDC-705 CD player.

I'm now wondering what to improve next, CD player or amp?

Happy to hear opinions!

Thanks

Peter

receivers are not a great way to drive stereo speakers so I would go for amp first.

There probably some good options in the classifieds but it would help to know what sort of budget you have in mind

Ah, I wasn't expecting that!  I expected the CD player may be the first cab off the rank.  But that's why I am here to learn!

CDC 705 Specs

As for budget, up to a couple of grand for each component is fine.  I guess I spent nearly $3,000 on the speakers.

Thanks for your comments.

These did comments take me by surprise at the time.

So after a bit of online research as I don't have access to any vendors nearby I purchased a secondhand Roksan K3 integrated amp off eBay.

I was (still am!) shocked at the difference!  Thank you for your advice.  I thought I owed it to you both to "report back"!

Thanks again!
