Item Condition: very good Shipping Options: Pickup available but audition is not available. Suburb or Town: Hurlstone Park State: NSW Payment Method: Paypal (+3.5%), Paypal friend, cash on pick-up Reason for selling: Not sure ... hence EOI I bought this from Clay about 2.5 years ago.
It was originally built in mid-2014 and then with Clay until I bought it in mid-2018. The Konverter has been part of my system ever since while a number of other DACs came and went.
Amazing Gieseler quality one of a kind DAC with some added tube goodness. Exceptional build quality and very high spec components – this was originally going to retail for around the $6,000 mark. Almost perfect combination of detail retrieval, musicality and tube-flavour of choice, which is why I kept coming back to this over and over again.
EOI at this stage, as this is one of the very few items I believe I might regret selling. House renos are imminent and I need to simplify system and get rid of some gear.
Link to Clay’s original for sale add with a lot more detail and some additional photos:
https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/topic/249039-sold-gieseler-konverter-dac-original-tube-version/?tab=comments#comment-3927621
Quote from a PM that Clay sent to when giving the Konverter a final test-run before sending it:
“I compared it to a Gross DAC & was quite surprised with the result. I was expecting more detail from the Gross but it was the other way round. Bottom end was similar on both DAC’s - maybe a fraction tighter on the Gross but not much in it.”
I had one issue with the Konverter a couple of months after buying it. The LDR/optical volume system was drifting out of balance favouring the left channel. Initially adjusted back with the balance trimmer on the PCB inside the Konverter with Clay’s remote support, but kept drifting out of balance. New Optos were ordered from the US, matched and installed by Terry Demole (zenelectro here on SNA) in Sydney with some remote assistance provided by Clay. Problem resolved and no issues in the 2 years since.
The DAC comes with several tubes that I used over the years, so you have a good range of different “flavours” to experiment with:
1. Genalex Gold Lion E88CC (this was the original tube it came with)
2. Philips NOS PCC88 (provided by Clay as an option)
3. Amperex 6922 US Pinched Waist D Getter PQ 1959 (my favourite)
4. Siemens E88CC grey shield 1966
5. Telefunken E88CC 1968
Any questions, please ping me a PM or ask here.
I am very reluctant to post this – not due to weight but rather due to potential damage in transit, so pick-up only at the moment. I can deliver within Greater Sydney if required and pre-arranged. No in-home auditions at this stage – sorry.
Cheers,
Ralf

Been going through the Gieseler DAC threads to dig up owners’ reviews & impressions over the past 2 few years. Together, they provided an impressive picture of how well Clay has made his DACs and has lead me to consider purchase the upcoming Groß DAC with balanced outputs.

Item Condition: Excellent Shipping Options: Pickup available but audition is not available.,Pickup available and you can audition.,Shipping is included in price. Suburb or Town: South Yarra, Melbourne State: Victoria Payment Method: PayPal, Bank Transfer, Cash on Pickup Reason for selling: Bought (the TOTL) Gieseler Fein II DAC A while ago ago I impulse purchased Clay's new TOTL DAC, leaving my Groß DAC is available for sale. There has been a lot written by owners here of Gieseler's DAC's (the full list being here: https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/topic/126626-gieseler-dac-reviews-impressions/). But just to give you a sample of what people have said about the Groß DAC:
From Max Headroom: https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/topic/246058-ps-audio-vs-devialet/page/3/?tab=comments#comment-3899124
"At the other extreme is the Geiseler GroB DAC. I don't think I can find the words to explain how insanely good it is. @scumbag what system did you listen to the DS Jr and Geiseler GroB in? Did you say you couldn't tell a difference between the DirectStream and the Geiseler? Because the difference was so obvious to me and so dramatic its unbelievable. The Gieseler created more lifelike images of instruments and musicians, almost as if they're standing infront of you, better separation between instruments, better clarity with complex music. It's just a bargain at the asking price."
From Rosco8: https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/topic/232237-gieseler-groß-dac-official-release/page/19/?tab=comments#comment-3872685
"A new Grob owner. It replaced a Cayin DAC (Valve/SS), and I also have an ARCAM-II DAC II, both quite good DACS, at least to my listening. Very pleased with the Grob .. been running a couple of weeks now, great detail and I can hear little nuances in recordings I haven't heard before. I listen to quite a range of material, from Tidal and FLACs I have rendered from my CD's. Beautiful rendering of vocals, good separation and detail."
From bhobba: https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/topic/234066-groß-dac-owners-thread/?tab=comments#comment-3805282
"I will get right to it - my USB only GROB simply blows away the Direct Stream. That's right - a 2.3k or so DAC takes out, and make no mistake about it, the difference is not subtle, the much much more expensive Direct Stream with the latest software etc (I think its about $8k or so here in Aus)."
From Conch: https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/topic/232237-gieseler-groß-dac-official-release/page/20/?tab=comments#comment-3886445
"I have compared the Groß to the Klein II, Chord 2qute and Accuphase Dac50 and the Groß has the edge over all of them imo. Better bass control, improved clarity, extremely musical and a natural tone that is engaging and enjoyable to listen to for hours on end with all genres of music."
Adding my own 2 cents to the commentary, when I upgraded to the Groß from an iFi iDSD Micro, my immediate impression was how much 'more natural' or less digital the sound was from the Groß while detail retrieval was more extended at both ends.
Needless to say that the Groß DAC is a truly excellent DAC and amongst the best Australian designed and made DACs made. The unit I am selling has been 'babied' since it was purchased and had it's firmware chip and software updated to the latest appropriate for a Windows based system. I'm sure Clay would be happy to provide you with the firmware for Linux or other based systems. The internal are set for XLR output but can be configured for RCA output (to resolve ground loop/hum issues). Included are the main DAC body, standard power supply, remote control (which never left it's packaging), and I can provide the user manual given to me and invoice of the purchase (PDF).
Pickup is available in South Yarra, Melbourne and I am able to post Australia wide at your expense. Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions you may have. Reasonable offers will be considered.
