Further information:

A rare opportunity to own these legendary horns.

Note there is a scratch on the back of one of the horns. The photo makes it look much worse than it actually is. Also, it's on the back, so you'll never see it.

There is a set on audio shark in Germany for EUR 12k, so I think my pricing is good. Especially as these look so much nicer!

Note: I do not have boxes for these so local pickup is preferred

What a beauty!!! If the speaker was lady, I would marry her. :)  Jokes aside, it is really great speaker and seller is super nice guy. Best luck on sale...

How old is the speaker and are you the original owner ? Can we see photo on the back please .
thanks

I'm the second owner so I'm not sure how old they are.

I bought then in 2016 from this ad.

Original owner was running them with Kondo amps.. very nice match

will add a photo from the back

EDIT: photo added. I forgot to mention that the connecting wire between the bass units and the horns is upgraded from stock.

Well, l do have the amp to go with them. Very tempting....

Now that the ring of steel is removed from Melbourne, you could bring your amp over and have a listen (what amp is it by the way?)

In response to a few queries, unfortunately I don't have the original boxes for these (I don't think the original seller had them when I bought them).

I've edited the first post with this information as well

Had the pleasure of listening to the trio model last Friday as I was picking up the Harbeth's which it replaced, astounding how perfect the sound fills the room.  Top shelf speakers.  GLWS

@evil c  time to try some horns pal. Flog the daleks and grab these https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e5/Italian_Gas_Horn.JPG/1200px-Italian_Gas_Horn.JPG

This is the small version that I have in my excavator but they pack a punch when pressed.

Avvisatore being the smaller marketing arm of Avantegarde, not many people know this.

Sir Zingalingalingaling WhoseMoore[?]'s  would pack more punch and especially with your new bits and bobs connected.

C'mon...come over to the darkside mate.?

Grab some of that McLaren Vale red and drop over for a listen.

GLWTS  Zingle-ding (auto-correct doesn't like your nick it seems)

Lovely speakers and when pressed...?

I know but I'm sworn to secrecy @Tubularbells (but a kg of yer best snags will loosen my tongue, I'll be down in Jan so postage worries are gone).

Sier Zangalanga has decided to enter in to the world of bi-amped OB's (I'm reliably informed) and major changes are afoot at Casa Del Zingmoorish. Don't quote me though as he's skittish and likely to change directions on a whim.

Squirrel !!!

To get a grasp of where I’m am going with this thread you need to of read or have read  this article.

      https://www.stereophile.com/content/gramophone-dreams-34-salt-cellar-system

If you go no further at the least it is in interesting read. Some will go “meh” others will take it on board to search for better reproduction. Maybe even build there own SC. The challenge I have given myself and would like to throwout to others is can you build or hobble together a “Salt Cellar“ (SC) system. The core of a SC system is purity of sound, dynamics and immediacy.

      These are the constrains/opportunities I’m am pursuing;

a monaural system high efficiency speakers - horns where possible a tube low power Class A mono power amp or even tube integrated amp vintage tubes mono vinyl phono playback from mono cart or mono wired phono stage  ultra short non shielded interconnects and speaker leads of Silver plated wire wrap wire ?

Ive been tossing this temp system around since I read that article and now have  (in my head) a whole SC system. So cutting to the chase I’m going to build a mono integrated wine box tube amp based on some vintage 807 and RCA 6SN7. Half the 6SN7 will be a single stage preamp and the other half the driver for a Suncalc designed 807 amp.

Speakers will be my Beyma 12” concentrics with a Altec 511B horn and FatalPro driver. The horns will handle mid-range and the tweeter in the horns super tweeters. Overall efficiency about 98db.

Im current working three other projects but now taken on a forth for a true SC system. Any other takers out there.

      Item: Azurahorn Ah-160 Midbass horns
      Location: Melbourne
      Price: $550 negotiable
      Item Condition:  Good for age.
Reason for selling: Taking up huge amounts of space.  Present audio room is way to small for these
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, COD Only
      Extra Info:
Up for sale is my Azura Ah-160 mid bass horns.  These mid bass horns have given me the best lower midrange through mid bass I have heard.  The fibreglass horns resonated quite a bit when i first got them so over a couple of years i put layer after layer of bitumen on them which improved the sound hugely (I got that idea from Goto with they're midrange and mid bass horns).  It took forever for the bitumen to dry hence the huge amount of application time.

They retail for $1200 new and then you have to pay the shipping, put on mounting plates, a rear chamber and ideally damp the mid bass and then paint them.  This has all been done ready to bolt the drivers in.  They are cut to a 4 inch throat to suit a 8 inch driver (same compression ratio and driver type as Avantgarde use in the Trio.  I have built a system that allows you to change the compression chamber size at the back of the horn.

If you wished to use them with a different sized driver (like a Western Electric style 555 compression driver or larger) you could get Azurahorn to sell you a extension piece.

Some people on the net have used these horns with the Avantgarde Duo for huge improvements to the sound (and near Avantgarde Trio sound).

They take up a huge amount of space (they are almost one metre in diameter so they just fit through a doorway).

They were originally gold in colour (using various metal powders and wax) but are presently in a more discreet Charcoal chalky type finish.  The rim needs a little touch up due to being in the garage a couple of years (I have more of the spray paint so can do this if required).

Useable response (depending on driver and position) is 60 hz (shoved hard into room corners) through to about 100 - 140 hz or so in free space.  I was crossing these over at 700-900 hz but many recommend using them to about 1100 hz.

I have some 8 inch Coral drivers I can provide cheap with these if needed.  I was using the Corals with these before switching to the Fane as used by Romy the Cat in his Upgraded Avantgarde Trio Midbass horns.  The Corals sound excellent in this mid bass horn.  Almost as good as the Fane but less efficient.

The Fane drivers have been sold and are not available.

Local pickup strongly preferred due to the obvious size and weight issues.  Otherwise you would have to arrange your own shipping.

Priced them cheap for a quick sale.
