This is a beautiful thread. A spectacular find backed with superb support from the SNA crew. Hoping that you can get this back to its former glory. Very exciting stuff.

It is isn’t it, so many members have reached out with offers of help.

Wont be quite back to it’s former glory, will have a few battle scars but it will make some noise again.

Yeah. But that’s ok isn’t it? As long as it can still make beautiful music. The rest we’ll call “character”.

Yep totally fine, I had an SNA member call past on Friday. He said I was being fussy ?, it has come up very nice.

Im sure it’ll make sweet music ?.

It’s going to be called “ Resurrection” I’m getting a plaque fabricated to go on the front of the plinth. It will look pretty sweet and also cover the bad scratch.

These might work as plugs for the pulley holes and they are the right price:

Thanks mate I’ll have a look. I meant to do that on the weekend when I was there but forgot all about it.

Such a cool find, and great work so far to get it cleaned up. IMO, I’d try and find a solution to replace the pulleys. Spreading the belt force across the three points means that the platter will spin centrally...Arthur K’s insight on the original Pink Triangles, and now more recently in the Funk LSD and Grande. His view is that the microscopic play in the bearing creates minute distortions at the stylus, given that it’s trying to track miniscule variations in the groove. The play arises from a belt pulling against a platter if you have a single point for the driving force. Because it’s so difficult to get multiple motors to spin at precisely the same speed, he advocates the use of the two slave pulleys.

I run a funk LSD nowadays and have found the sound quality from the pulley system to be truly awesome...

So have had a few items turn up, getting closer now.

I have been in contact with Harry from VPI and he has found three of the pulleys and is going to send them over to me. He actually advises as others have to not use the tri pulley setup and to use a 300rpm motor with HRX pulley and single belt.

I have tested the motor today when the SDS arrived and it works. I’m just waiting for some belts to come and then can test speed. Hopefully the arm arrives next week.

It’s been like Christmas. ?

Another package arrived today with my arm and base. It’s a JMW 10.5 with VTA on the fly base. Will definitely look the part, getting used to the unipivot might take a little time.

Ive also got the armboard getting fabricated this week, hopefully pickup on Friday. Ive also been in contact with Jason “The Turntable Doctor” and he is going to do the setup for me. I’m still waiting on the other parts so I can fabricate the feet, hopefully not too far away.

Happy days. ??????

Another couple of pieces to the puzzle I picked up today. A big shout out to @Bisguittin for helping me with the files and PCI Laser cutting for the cutting and engraving. Fast turn around time, great price and very helpful plus did an amazing job.

I need to laminate the armboard pieces together but I have sourced some 20mm which I’m going to get cut and etched as well. You never know if I want to change arms in the future.

Very close now. ?07C35F77-714B-4287-8FD2-ECF52EB6F44B.jpeg.b629c9937ad29eb2c8696c565af2d082.jpeg809F5E53-2E96-4FF8-87D4-A0B9DD4A104A.jpeg.c209a623727dd2710505854a24f112ad.jpegA0C5ED3C-099A-43F4-8B53-E787BE794A01.jpeg.6e58b971839db4e1604c4c9a57b9eb17.jpegD2B69FC2-EFB9-4190-A85B-750F20D0BEC3.jpeg.8361ebe35ff762097c15d724b39fd92b.jpeg

So I’m still waiting on some belts to arrive, ordered on the 1st of December.

The feet that I ordered have arrived but I’m not happy with them so have just sourced some other feet and I’m going to pull the welder out and fab something to make them work.

I have started on a base for the TNT to sit on . I have used some floorboards I had and laminated them to some mdf with a layer of wavebar in between. Solid jarrah edging all round. Definitely not perfect but it will do the trick. ?

This will then be sitting on some Isoacoustics Stage 1 isolators.F570F985-BC5D-4938-B819-671E62408A59.jpeg.3f9ec3556c66fb93f82e42184528bf84.jpeg6DD7AC59-BF3D-43AF-93A7-4BD92D3D0C3E.jpeg.1efa6833b185479b96773ebe1ea9645d.jpegB59595F6-5BB3-4C61-8E54-6B8DFE4B2649.thumb.jpeg.7fc039541e6550035844dee48771f728.jpegF527C7B8-6D4E-4B29-8FAD-C5F4D829DDCC.jpeg.7f251afddc17aa04ef1ef9f7e545553d.jpeg

The belts have arrived but I can’t seem to get the speed bang on. I think that it may be a 50hz pulley, maybe it wasn’t used with an SDS before. The SDS puts out 60hz, will wait for the new 300rpm motor and pulley to arrive.
I have temporarily set it up on the base that I’ve made. She is certainly a beast. Will look good when I’ve finished the feet.

Finished the feet this weekend. Have come out ok, to be honest I’m not really happy with the finish but was really over it. Functionally they work really well.

I cut down some steel tube and welded a bottom on so I could then fix them to the threaded feet. I then filled the tube with resin to hopefully stop resonance and used some bushes to locate the springs. The springs are genuine from a TNT.

I have also fixed the tonearm base off and have begun setup of the arm and cartridge I’m just waiting on the alignment jig to complete.

Also still waiting on the new motor and pulley to arrive. It’s very close now.

@Pops110 As this TT has evolved from rubbish tip condition to just like brand new, really glad to see this TT was found and picked up by you. It's exactly what OP titled "a stray followed me  home"?

Thanks mate, can’t wait to fire it up. It has come up a hundred times better than I thought it was going to when I first got it.

@Pops110 Love the feet and what you've achieved to date with the rebuild is totally awesome. As you know I have the same conundrum; no elephant feet for my TNT but the spring suspensions are there. Can you share more details on the feet assembly and how you managed to get them at 3" diameter. Also, are they rubber or metal cone-shaped feet?
