Been thinking about trying an RPI.

Where can I buy these from? Assume they can be bought in Aust or are they bought overseas? Recommendations please?

You can buy them on ebay pretty cheaply, including various cases, micro SD cards etc.

I purchased most of my pi4’s 2gb from www.umart.com.au including the offical power supply, only a 5min drive for me to pick up.

Thanks guys. If I get the Model 4, do I need the 2g, 4g or 8g?

Oh and what size SD card do I need?

The cheaper 2gb is more than you will ever need for an audio application, in terms of micro SD card, just buy an 8gb one, I ended up buying 16gb as they were almost the same price.

I get mine from Aliexpress. 2GB is sufficient for audio running either VitOS or RoPieeeXL.

That said I've an 8GB model on the way which I want to see how it goes streaming video via the web browser using Manjaro Linux. I'll also install Roon Bridge on it. If successful I'll retire my BeeLink U57 minipc in the downstairs system and use this instead.

Kind of keen to get rid of any Intel based systems around the home. My desktop PC, NAS and minipc in my main system are all AMD Ryzen based, except my wifes notebook computer.... Yeah, long time AMD fanboy. Actually,  if I successfully get Roon Server working on the UnRAID NAS then I'll retire the AMD MiniPC in favor of a RP4B as well. Way lower power use.

I bought the 'LASBISTS complete starter kit' from Amazon. It comes with basically everything you need.

I also suggest to get a better heat sink so you don't need to use fan for cooling. The sound of fan spinning can be annoying.

i buy mine from core electronics. their prices are reasonable and they have good after sales support if you ever run into problems hardware and software.

Ditto!  Especially when you buy one off RS electronics, the shipping time is horrendous, esp during these covid-Aust post delays.

I ordered one from Core and it took 3 days to get it to me.

I got mine from core electronics.

Quick and easy delivery. I grabbed one of the passive heat sinks to help with cooling.

Core electronics have a decent range of basic accessories.

I grabbed my memory card from Officeworks:

https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/sandisk-ultra-32gb-micro-sdhc-memory-card-sdsq32gb

Works perfectly for Roon/Ropieee XL.

Only $2 more for 32 vs 16.

While we are on the topic of RPI.

Has anyone tried one of these:

Looking to use with a newly purchased: ifi power X supply.

Any feedback would be awesome.
